Ivo Beck
Ivo Maria Beck (, ; 31 March 1926 – 9 September 1991) was a lawyer and politician from Liechtenstein who served in the Landtag of Liechtenstein from 1953 to 1957 and again from 1966 to 1970. Additionally, he served the president of the Patriotic Union from 1951 to 1959 and as a government councillor from 1957 to 1959. Early life Beck was born on 31 March 1926 in Vaduz as the son of President of the Landtag of Liechtenstein Wilhelm Beck and Maria Anna Bürke as one of four children. From 1939 to 1945 attended high school in Schwyz and Vaduz before studying law in Bern, where he received a doctorate. Career In 1950 he founded a law firm in Vaduz and then in 1957 he founded the ''Administral Anstalt'' trust company in Triesen. From 1951 to 1959 Beck was the president of the Patriotic Union (Liechtenstein), Patriotic Union. ''Liechtensteiner Vaterland'' (; lit. "Liechtenstein Fatherland") is the largest daily newspaper in Liechtenstein. Published by Vaduzer Medienhaus AG, it is the official newspaper of the Patriotic Union party. History In January 1936, Christian-Social People's Party and Liechtenstein Homeland Service merged to form the Patriotic Union. As a result, the parties respective newspapers, the '' Liechtensteiner Nachrichten'' and ''Stimme für heimische Wirtschaft, Kultur und Volkstum'' merged to form the ''Liechtensteiner Vaterland'' with Carl Freiherr von Vogelsang as the first editor in chief. The newspaper came under controversy in January 1937 when Vogelsang publicly denounced Jews living in Liechtenstein and sent numerous letters detailing them to officials in Nazi Germany. Pfadfinder und Pfadfinderinnen Liechtensteins (''Scouts and Guides of Liechtenstein'', PPL) is the national Scouting and Guiding association of Liechtenstein. Scouting in Liechtenstein started in 1931, and Guiding followed in 1932. The Boy Scouts became a member of the World Organization of the Scout Movement in 1933, and the Guides joined the World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts in 1952. In 1989 both organizations merged and formed the present ''Pfadfinder und Pfadfinderinnen Liechtensteins''. The PPL has about 1,100 members of both sexes and is organised in ten troops (799 Scouts and 312 Guides).
