Hellboy is a superhero created by Mike Mignola and appearing in comic books published by Dark Horse Comics. The character first appeared in ''San Diego Comic-Con Comics'' #2 (August 1993), and has since appeared in various miniseries, one-shots, and intercompany crossovers. John Arcudi
John Arcudi is an American comic book writer, best known for his work on '' The Mask'' and '' B.P.R.D.'' and his series '' Major Bummer''. Early life Arcudi grew up in Buffalo, New York. He attended Columbia University as an English major and developed an appreciation for the works of Edgar Rice Burroughs and William Faulkner. Career Arcudi worked for Malibu Comics upon its founding in 1986, working on its Eternity line. "The Conqueror Worm" is a poem by Edgar Allan Poe about human mortality and the inevitability of death. It was first published separately in ''Graham's Magazine'' in 1843, but quickly became associated with Poe's short story "Ligeia" after Poe added the poem to a revised publication of the story in 1845. In the revised story, the poem is composed by the eponymous Ligeia, and taught to the narrator in the fits of her death throes. Synopsis An audience of weeping angels watches a play performed by "mimes, in the form of God on high", and controlled by vast formless shapes looming behind the scenes. The mimes chase a "Phantom" which they can never capture, running around in circles. Finally, a monstrous "crawling shape" emerges, and eats the mimes. Ryan Sook is an American comic book artist, known for his work on books such as '' Seven Soldiers: Zatanna'', ''X-Factor'' and '' The Spectre''. His style has been compared to that of Mike Mignola, Adam Hughes, and Kevin Nowlan. Career Sook's first professional work was in '' Challengers of the Unknown'' #15, published in 1998. ''B.P.R.D.: Hollow Earth & Other Stories'' is the first trade paperback collection in the ''Bureau for Paranormal Research and Defense'' (B.P.R.D.) series. Collected stories ''Hollow Earth'' This was the first ''B.P.R.D.'' mini-series. Three issues long, it was written by Mike Mignola, Christopher Golden and Tom Sniegoski with art by Ryan Sook and Curtis Arnold. It was published from January to June 2002. Hellboy novelist Golden and his long-time writing partner Sniegoski wrote the story with regular input from Mignola. Sook was chosen to draw the book following a meeting with Mignola at a convention in Oakland, CA in 1995 and saw it as a chance to have a book all to himself although Arnold joined as inker when schedules started running tight halfway through production. Gary Gianni (born 1954) is an Americans, American comics artist best known for his eight years illustrating the syndicated newspaper comic ''Prince Valiant''. After Gianni graduated from the Chicago Academy of Fine Arts in 1976, he worked for the ''Chicago Tribune'' as an illustrator and network television news as a courtroom sketch artist. Career He illustrated numerous magazines, children's books and paperbacks. His comic book debut was in 1990 with adaptations of ''The Tales of O. Henry'' and ''Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Seas, 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea'' for the ''Classics Illustrated'' series.
