Itatiaia () is a List of municipalities in Rio de Janeiro, municipality located in the States of Brazil, Brazilian state of Rio de Janeiro (state), Rio de Janeiro. With a 2021 population estimate of 32,312, it is the 1,097th-most populous municipality in Brazil. Located in the Mantiqueira Mountains, Mantiqueira mountain range and on the border of the states of Rio de Janeiro and Minas Gerais, Minais Gerais, it covers an area of . The oldest national park in Brazil, Itatiaia National Park (''Parque Nacional do Itatiaia''), is partially located within Itatiaia. The municipality also contains part of the Pedra Selada State Park, created in 2012. Itatiaia National Park
Itatiaia National Park () was established in 1937 as the first national park in Brazil, and after more than 85 years, the oldest. It is located on the border between the states of Rio de Janeiro and Minas Gerais. Location The Itatiaia National Park, the oldest national park of Brazil, was created on 14 June 1937 by President Getúlio Vargas as the first of 76 such parks. ''Bandeirantes'' (; ; singular: ''bandeirante'') were settlers in colonial Brazil who participated in expeditions to expand the colony's borders and subjugate Indigenous peoples in Brazil, indigenous peoples during the early modern period. Paraty
Paraty (or Parati, ) is a preserved Portuguese colonial (1500–1822) and Brazilian Imperial (1822–1889) municipality with a population of about 43,000. The name "Paraty" originates from the local Guaianá Indians' indigenous Tupi language, named for an abundant local fish native to the region. Purí People
The Puri (also Puri-Coroado, Coroado, Telikong and Paqui) are an indigenous people of Brazil. The now-extinct Puri languages were thought to have belonged to the Macro-Jê language family, but are now seen as isolated. 675 people identified as Puri in 2010.
