Italian Finns (; ) are Finnish-born citizens who are fully or partially of Italian descent, whose ancestors were Italians who emigrated to Finland during the Italian diaspora, or Italian-born people in Finland. Characteristics The number of Italians can only be measured in the number of Italian speakers, people born in Italy and their children, since Finland does not collect statistics on ethnicity. The "Associazione degli Italiani" in Finland, founded in 1990, operates in Finland as an aggregation society for Italian-Finnish people. Furthermore, the Finland-Italy cultural society operates in Finland, founded in 1963, to increase cultural exchanges between the two cultures. Demographics 67% of Italian Finns are male and 33% are female. 51.3% of Italian Finns are employed, 9.5% are unemployed and 39.2% are outside the labour force. Charles Bassi
Charles (Carlo) Francesco Bassi (12 November 1772, Turin – 11 November 1840, Turku) was a Finnish architect of Italian descent. He was the first professionally trained architect who permanently worked in present-day Finland. He worked, both as an independent architect and as an official responsible for planning new churches, in a Neoclassical style. Life Charles Bassi was the brother of ballet dancer Giovanna Bassi and came with her from present-day Italy to Sweden in 1783. Initially, he was employed by the Swedish King Gustav III as a page but started studying architecture at the Royal Swedish Academy of Arts in Stockholm in 1784. His principal teacher was Louis Jean Desprez. He was awarded prizes at the academy in 1788 and 1790, and after finishing his studies left for an eight-year-long study trip to Italy and Paris. Lauri Dalla Valle
Lauri Dalla Valle (born 14 September 1991) is a Finnish former professional footballer who played as a striker. After playing youth football for JIPPO and Inter Milan, Dalla Valle moved to England in 2008 to join Liverpool. After two seasons he joined Fulham, and while there spent spells with Bournemouth, Dundee United, Exeter City and Crewe Alexandra, leaving the club in 2013. Matias Maccelli
Matias Maccelli (born October 14, 2000) is a Finnish professional ice hockey left wing for the Toronto Maple Leafs of the National Hockey League (NHL). Maccelli was drafted in the fourth round, 98th overall, by the Arizona Coyotes in the 2019 NHL entry draft, and has also played for the Utah Hockey Club. Early life Maccelli was born to an American-born mother and Finnish father in Turku, Finland. His mother had moved to Finland when she was seven years old. Maccelli is of Italian descent through his maternal great-grandfather who was from Italy. Playing career Maccelli began his junior career with HC Turun Palloseura (or TPS) of the Finnish Liiga.
