The Italian Wikipedia () is the Italian language, Italian-language edition of Wikipedia. This edition was created on 10 May 2001, and first edited on 11 June 2001. As of , it has articles and more than registered accounts. It is the -largest Wikipedia by the number of articles (after the English Wikipedia, English, Swedish Wikipedia, Swedish, German Wikipedia, German, Dutch Wikipedia, Dutch, French Wikipedia, French, Cebuano Wikipedia, Cebuano, Russian Wikipedia, Russian, and Spanish Wikipedia, Spanish editions). The Spanish Wikipedia () is the Spanish-language edition of Wikipedia, a free online encyclopedia. It has articles. Started in May 2001, it reached 100,000 articles on 8 March 2006, and 1,000,000 articles on 16 May 2013. It is the -largest Wikipedia as measured by the number of articles and has the 4th-most edits. It also ranks 32nd in terms of article depth among Wikipedias. Academic studies have indicated that the Spanish Wikipedia is less reliable than the English and German Wikipedias, as well as more prone to disinformation from Russian government outlets. It has also been accused of whitewashing left-wing authoritarian regimes such as that of Cuba's, and for allowing damaging disinformation about living people who are critical of the left. The Portuguese Wikipedia () is the Portuguese-language edition of Wikipedia (written Wikipédia, in Portuguese), the free encyclopedia. It was started on 11 May 2001. Wikipedia is the nineteenth most accessed website in Brazil and the tenth most accessed in Portugal. , it is the largest Wikipedia by article count, containing articles. The Portuguese edition is one of the Wikipedias that does not allow edits from unregistered users. It has disabled edits from IP editors in 2020. History The Portuguese Wikipedia was the third edition of Wikipedia to be created, simultaneously with other languages. It started its activities on 11 May 2001, having reached the mark of one hundred thousand articles on 26 January 2006. From late 2004, the edition grew rapidly. Alessandro Francesco Tommaso Antonio Manzoni (, , ; 7 March 1785 – 22 May 1873) was an Italian poet, novelist and philosopher. He is famous for the novel ''The Betrothed (Manzoni novel), The Betrothed'' (orig. ) (1827), generally ranked among the masterpieces of world literature. Francis Petrarch (; 20 July 1304 – 19 July 1374; ; modern ), born Francesco di Petracco, was a scholar from Arezzo and poet of the early Italian Renaissance, as well as one of the earliest Renaissance humanism, humanists. Petrarch's rediscovery of Cicero's letters is often credited with initiating the 14th-century Italian Renaissance and the founding of Renaissance humanism. Nupedia was a multi-language online encyclopedia whose articles were written by volunteer contributors with relevant subject-matter expertise, reviewed by expert editors before publication, and licensed as free content. It was founded by Jimmy Wales and underwritten by Bomis, with Larry Sanger as editor-in-chief. Nupedia operated from March 2000 until September 2003. It is best known today as the predecessor of Wikipedia. Nupedia had a seven-step approval process to control content of articles before being posted, rather than live wiki-based updating. ISO 639 is a international standard, standard by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) concerned with representation of languages and language groups.
