''Libeccio'' was one of four built for the (Royal Italian Navy) in the early 1930s. Completed in 1934, she served in World War II. She was present during the Battle of Taranto, and suffered a direct bomb hit, however it passed through her hull without exploding. She was also present at the disastrous Battle of the Duisburg Convoy, though survived only to be torpedoed the next day by HMS ''Upholder'' when she returned to the scene to search for survivors, she was taken in tow but soon sank. Battle Of Taranto
The Battle of Taranto took place on the night of 11–12 November 1940 during the Second World War between British naval forces, under Admiral Andrew Cunningham, and Italian naval forces, under Admiral Inigo Campioni. The Royal Navy launched the first all-aircraft ship-to-ship naval attack in history, employing 21 Fairey Swordfish biplane torpedo bombers from the aircraft carrier in the Mediterranean Sea. The attack struck the battle fleet of the ''Regia Marina'' at anchor in the harbour of Taranto, using aerial torpedoes despite the shallowness of the water. The success of this attack augured the ascendancy of naval aviation over the big guns of battleships. Parsons Marine Steam Turbine Company was a British engineering company based on the River Tyne at Wallsend, North East England. The draft or draught of a ship's hull is the vertical distance between the waterline and the bottom of the hull ( keel).
