Itagüí is a station on line A of the Medellín Metro going south. It is named after the city where it is located, Itagüí Itagüí () is a city and municipality of Colombia, located in the south of the Aburrá Valley in the Antioquia Department. The station was opened on 30 September 1996 as the terminus of the extension of the line from Poblado. On 17 September 2012, the line was extended to La Estrella. In 2012, the second expansion of line A took place. Before the second expansion of the Medellín Metro, this was a terminal station for line A. Itagüí () is a city and municipality of Colombia, located in the south of the Aburrá Valley in the Antioquia Department. It is part of the Metropolitan Area of the Aburrá Valley. Demographics The population was estimated to be 289,994 in 2020. The population at the 2005 census was 230,272 on an area of 17.74 km2. History Founded in 1743, Itagüí was declared a municipality in 1832. Its name comes from (according to some historians) the name of an indigenous chief, ''Bitagüí''. Two of Itagüí’s most iconic inhabitants include Diego Echavarría Misas and Eladio Vélez. There were two chapels in Itagüí in colonial times; one was in the place of the ''Tablaza'' that had been owned by Bruno Saldarriaga, built with the permission of the Bishop of Popayán, Francisco José de Figueredo (granted December 19, 1743). Medellín Metro
The Medellín Metro (Spanish language, Spanish: ''Metro de Medellín'') is a rapid transit system that crosses the Metropolitan Area of Medellín from North to South and from Centre to West. It first opened for service on 30 November 1995. As one of the first implementations of modern mass transportation in Colombia and the only metro system in the country, the Medellín Metro is a product of the urban planning of the Antioquia department of Colombia. It is part of the Aburrá Valley Integrated Transport System (''Sistema Integrado de Transporte del Valle de Aburrá'', SITVA). Poblado Station
Poblado is a station on line A of the Medellín Metro from north to south. It is named after El Poblado (Medellín), El Poblado, where it is located adjacent to the Monterrey shopping center. The station was opened on 30 November 1995 as the terminus of the inaugural section of Line A, from Niquía station, Niquía to Poblado. On 30 September 1996 the line was extended to Itagüí station, Itagüí. La Estrella Station
La Estrella (''English:'' "The Star"), also known as Ancón, is a station on line A of the Medellín Metro going south. It is located in the La Estrella municipality of Colombia. It was inaugurated on September 17, 2012 as part of the extension of the line from Itagüí in a ceremony attended by the current president of Colombia, Juan Manuel Santos Juan Manuel Santos Calderón (; born 10 August 1951) is a Colombian politician who was the President of Colombia from 2010 to 2018.
