István Avar (actor)
István Avar (, ) (28 May 1905 – 13 October 1977) was a footballer and manager of German descent who at various times competed for both Hungary and Romania as a forward. He played for Újpest FC, most famous for playing for the Hungary national team in the 1934 World Cup. He was born in Arad, Hungary, which became part of Romania in 1920. With Újpest, Avar won the Mitropa Cup in 1929, being the competition's top scorer with ten goals, and the Coupe des Nations in 1930. After 1941, he became the player-manager of Kaposvári Rákóczi. He died in Kaposvár in 1977, aged 72. Arad, Romania
Arad () is the capital city of Arad County, at the edge of Crișana and Banat. No villages are administered by the city. 1929 Mitropa Cup
The 1929 season of the Mitropa Cup football (soccer), football club tournament was won by Újpest FC in a two-legged final against Slavia Prague. This was the third edition of the tournament, and the first edition in which Italian clubs competed and Yugoslavian clubs did not compete. Clubs from Yugoslavia were barred from the competition after Alexander I of Yugoslavia, King Alexander declared a royal dictatorship on January 6 of that year, so Italy entered. FIGC Qualifications Italy was invited to join, but when the Mitropa began, the Final of the Italian Championship between Torino and Bologna was to play, so the FIGC decided for a playoff between their runners-up Milan and Juventus against two out of the three remaining most successful clubs of the country, Genoa and Inter. Liga I (; ''First League''), also spelled as Liga 1 and officially known as SuperLiga for sponsorship reasons, is a professional association football league in Romania and the highest level of the Romanian football league system. Contested by 16 clubs, it operates on a system of promotion and relegation from and to Liga II. The teams play 30 matches each in the regular season, before entering the championship play-offs or the relegation play-outs according to their position in the regular table. Mitropa Cup
The Mitropa Cup, officially called Coupe de l'Europe Centrale, Mitteleuropäischer Pokal or Central European Cup, was one of the first international major European association football, football cups for club sides. It was conducted among the successor states of the former Austria-Hungary. After World War II in 1951 a replacement tournament named ''Zentropa Cup'' was held, but just for one season, the Mitropa Cup name was revived, and again in 1958 the name of the tournament changed to ''Danube Cup'' but only for one season.
