Issum is a municipality in the district of Kleve, in North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany. It is located approximately east of Geldern. Economy Issum is home to the Diebels brewery, the largest altbier brewery in the world. Diebels
Brauerei Diebels is a firm based in Issum on the Region Niederrhein, Lower Rhine that manufactures various beer products. The company was a prominent shirt sponsor of the German Bundesliga clubs MSV Duisburg between 1977 and 1981 and Borussia Mönchengladbach during the 1990s. In 2005 the company produced 1,006,000 hectoliters of beer. Compared to 2004, production fell by two percent, compared to 2001 by around 33 percent. With the introduction of a Diebels Pils in 2005, production could only be stabilized for a short time. In addition to the Diebels brands, various products from the Beck & Co. brewery, which also belongs to the Anheuser-Busch Inbev Group, are bottled in Issum. In 2016 only 350,000 hl of beer were produced. Diebels was shirt sponsor of Borussia Mönchengladbach from 1994 to 1997 and of Fortuna Düsseldorf from 1993 to 1998. Peter Wollny
Peter Wollny (born 29 June 1961) is a German musicologist, a Bach scholar who has served the Bach Archive Leipzig beginning in 1993, and as its director from 2014. Wollny has contributed to the Neue Bach-Ausgabe, and has been an editor of '' Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach: The Complete Works''. He has been professor at the University of Leipzig, and teaching internationally. He received an honorary doctorate from the University of Uppsala. Career Wollny was born in , Issum. Isabell Werth
Isabell Werth (born 21 July 1969 in Issum) is a German equestrian who has competed in dressage at seven Olympic Games —1992, 1996, 2000, 2008, 2016, 2020, 2024— winning the gold medal in the team event in all seven, and one gold and six silver medals in the individual event. She stands alone in having medals from seven Olympics, or across a span of 32 years; her 14 medals are the most for any German or equestrian. Kleve (district)
Kleve (Cleves in English use) or Kreis Kleve is a Kreis (local-government district) in the Lower Rhine region of northwestern North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany. Neighbouring districts are Borken, Wesel, and Viersen in Germany, and the Dutch provinces of Limburg and Gelderland. History The district in its current borders was created in 1975 when the former district of Kleve and Geldern was merged with the Rees District towns of Emmerich and Rees and the Moers District municipality of Rheurdt. The two precursor districts had been created in 1816 when the whole of the Rhineland became a province of Prussia. Altbier
Altbier (, ) is a style of beer brewed in the Rhineland, especially around the city of Düsseldorf, Germany. It is a copper coloured beer whose name comes from it being top-fermented, an older method than the bottom fermentation of lagers. Characteristics Altbier is usually a dark, copper colour. It is fermented at a moderate temperature using a top-fermenting yeast—which gives its flavour some fruitiness.
