Raïs Hamidou
Hamidou ben Ali , known as Raïs Hamidou (), or Amidon in American literature, born around 1770 in Algiers, and died on June 17, 1815, near Cape Gata off the coast of southern Spain, was an Algerian corsair. He captured up to 200 ships during his career. Hamidou ensured the prosperity of the Deylik of Algiers, and gave it its last glory before the French invasion. His biography is relatively well known because the French archivist Albert Devoulx has found important documents, including a precious ''register of prizes'' opened by the authorities of the Deylik in 1765. Songs and legends have also taken hold of this charismatic character. Origins He was the son of a man named Ali. According to some sources his father was an artisan tailor in Algiers. Mohamed Aïchaoui
Mohamed Aïchaoui (29 January 1921 - 1959) was an Algerian journalist and militant in the nationalist movement against French Algeria. Aïchaoui wrote the ''Declaration of 1 November 1954'', the National Liberation Front's first appeal to the Algerian people at the start of the Algerian War. After earlier imprisonment and torture, he died in a 1959 clash with the French army. Early life Aïchaoui was born on 29 January 1921 in the town of Si Mustapha, in lower Kabylia near the Isser River. He grew up in woody Thénia, part of the Khachna mountain range. Aïchaoui's father worked for a French settler and, after his death, his wife moved to Algiers with her children. They settled in El Annasser, renting a house on the former Rue Ampère. His family's poverty forced Aïchaoui to leave school and work with his older brother, Saïd, as a carpenter. He later worked for a French lawyer, where he learned administration and fingerprinting. Sidi Abder Rahman El Thaelebi
Abdul-Rahman al-Tha'alibi ( ar, أبو زيد عـبـد الـرحـمـن بن مـخـلـوف الـثـعـالـبـي, Abū Zayd ‘Abd al-Raḥmān ibn Makhlūf ath-Tha‘ālibī) (1384 CE/785 AH – 1479 CE/875 AH), was an Arab Scholar, Imam and Sufi wali. He was born near the town of Isser 86 km south east of Algiers. He was raised in a very spiritual environment with high Islamic values and ethics. He had great interpersonal skills and devoted his entire life in service of the most deprived, to dhikr of Allah, and to writing of over 100 books and treatises. He has become a symbol of Algiers, which has become known as the "city of sidi Abder Rahman." Zawiya Thaalibia (Issers)
The Zawiya Thaalibia ( ar, الزاوية الثعالبية) or the Sidi Abd al-Rahman al-Tha'alibi Zawiya ( ar, زاوية سيدي عبد الرحمان الثعالبي) is a zawiya in the commune of the Issers in Algeria. The name "Thaalibia" relates to Abd al-Rahman al-Tha'alibi. Missions The zawiya of Sidi Abd al-Rahman al-Tha'alabi in the Issers is considered a prominent religious teacher in memorizing and indoctrinating the Quran and its basic rulings for young people and providing the various mosques of Boumerdes Province during the month of Ramadan every year with a preservation that leads to Tarawih prayers by reciting the Quran with the Warsh recitation. 2008 Issers Bombing
The 2008 Issers bombing occurred on August 19, 2008, when a suicide bomber drove and detonated a vehicle laden with explosives into a crowd of para-military recruits waiting to take exams outside a police academy in Issers, Boumerdès Province, Algeria killing 43 and injuring 38. The Al-Qaeda Organization in the Islamic Maghreb is suspected as being responsible. First Battle Of The Issers
The First Battle of the Issers in May 1837, during the French conquest of Algeria, pitted the troupes coloniales under General Perrégaux and Colonel Schauenburg against the troops of Kabylia of the '' Igawawen''. Background The ceasefire situation which presided between the Kabylia and the French colonial power in Algiers after the invasion of the troupes coloniales in 1830 suddenly changed when the Kabyle marabouts of the Rahmaniyya Sufi brotherhood rallied to Emir Abdelkader in early 1837. Si Mustapha
Si-Mustapha is a town and commune in the Isser District of Boumerdès Province, Algeria. According to the 1998 census it has a population of 9,015. Previously named Blad Guitoune ("land of the tent"), it was renamed Félix-Faure in 1899 during the colonial period, after the former French president Félix Faure. After independence in 1962, it was given the new name of Si Mustapha, after the ''nom de guerre'' of the ALN fighter Mohamed Saoudi, who died nearby in combat on 25 November 1958.
