Israel Schwartz
Israel Schwartz was a man who claimed to have witnessed an assault on a London woman on 30 September 1888. Schwartz identified the victim as Elizabeth Stride, the assumed third victim tied to the Whitechapel murders who was found dead in the same place, potentially making Schwartz one of the few people who might have had a good look at the murderer. Background During police questioning, Schwartz gave his address as 22 Ellen Street, located at Back Church Lane at the end of Berner Street (now Henriques Street). According to both police and journalists, Schwartz was a Jewish immigrant and spoke no or poor English. Police made no mention of his origin, describing him only as a foreigner, but a contemporary article of ''The Star'' referred to Schwartz as Hungarian. Elizabeth Stride
Elizabeth "Long Liz" Stride ( Gustafsdotter; 27 November 1843 – 30 September 1888) is believed to have been the third victim of the unidentified serial killer known as Jack the Ripper, who killed and mutilated at least five women in the Whitechapel and Spitalfields districts of London from late August to early November 1888. Unlike the other four canonical Ripper victims, Stride had not been mutilated following her murder, leading some historians to suspect Stride had not actually been murdered by Jack the Ripper. However, Stride's murder occurred less than one hour before the murder of the Ripper's fourth canonical victim, Catherine Eddowes, within walking distance, and her act of murder is suspected to have been disturbed by an individual entering the crime scene upon a two-wheeled cart. Mesirah (or mesira, ) is the action in which one Jew reports the conduct of another Jew to a non-rabbinic authority in a manner and under the circumstances forbidden by rabbinic law. Aaron Kosminski
Aaron Kosminski (born Aron Mordke Kozmiński; 11 September 1865 – 24 March 1919) was a Polish hairdresser who is a suspect in the Jack the Ripper murders of 1888. Kosminski was a Polish Jew who emigrated from Congress Poland to England in the 1880s. He worked as a hairdresser in Whitechapel in the East End of London, where a series of murders ascribed to an unidentified person nicknamed "Jack the Ripper" were committed in 1888. Beginning in 1891, Kosminski was institutionalised after he threatened his sister with a knife. He was first held at Colney Hatch Lunatic Asylum and then transferred to the Leavesden Asylum. Police officials from the time of the murders named one of their suspects as "Kosminski" (the forename was not given) and described him as a Polish Jew in an insane asylum. Joseph Lawende
Joseph Lawende (9 February 1847 – 9 January 1925) was a Polish-born British cigarette salesman who is believed to have witnessed serial killer Jack the Ripper in the company of his fourth victim, Catherine Eddowes, approximately nine minutes before the discovery of her body on 30 September 1888. Lawende provided a detailed description of the Ripper to investigators; he was later described by the Assistant Commissioner of Police of the Metropolis, Assistant Commissioner of the Metropolitan Police, Robert Anderson (Scotland Yard), Robert Anderson, as "the only person who ever had a good view of the murderer."
