Lacrosse in Israel is a minor sport, with 700 players as of June 2015. Israel Lacrosse Association The Israel Lacrosse Association (ILA) is the official governing body of lacrosse in Israel, and is a member of World Lacrosse and the European Lacrosse Federation. It was founded to develop and promote lacrosse within Israel and strives to offer lacrosse to Israelis of all ages. Israel Lacrosse was founded in 2010 by Scott Neiss who previously served as an executive for the National Lacrosse League, along with William Beroza and Howard Borkan. It was officially recognized by World Lacrosse in April 2011. Israel Men's National Lacrosse Team
The Israel men's national lacrosse team is governed by the Israel Lacrosse Association. Their best finish was at the 2016 European Lacrosse Championship, winning the silver medal. Israel finished in 7th place at the 2014 World Lacrosse Championship. In both tournaments, England men's national lacrosse team, England defeated Israel by one goal in the single-elimination round. History Israel became able to compete in international tournaments once the Israel Lacrosse Association was officially recognized by World Lacrosse in April 2011. In preparation for its first major international tournament, the 2014 World Lacrosse Championship, Israel held tryouts in July 2013 at Wingate Institute in Netanya, selecting a roster of 46 men. 2014 World Lacrosse Championship
The 2014 World Lacrosse Championship was held July 10–19 at Dick's Sporting Goods Park outside Denver, Colorado. 38 nations played 142 games in this international men's lacrosse championship tournament organized by the Federation of International Lacrosse. Nine nations—Belgium, China, Colombia, Costa Rica, Israel, Russia, Thailand, Turkey, and Uganda—all competed in the event for the first time. In the championship game on July 19, Canada captured its third gold medal by upsetting the United States 8–5 in front of 11,861 fans. Canadian goalie Dillon Ward was named the tournament's Most Valuable Player after he made 10 saves in the championship game, becoming the first goalie to ever receive the honor. The Iroquois Nationals finished third by defeating Australia 16–5 in the bronze medal game. The 2016 European Lacrosse Championship was the 10th edition of the European Lacrosse competition for national teams. It was played in Budapest, Hungary from 28 July to 6 August 2016.
