Israa Jaabis
Israa Jaabis ( ar, إسراء جعابيص) is a Palestinian woman who was imprisoned in Israel from 2015 to 2023. Jaabis seriously injured herself and police officer Moshe Chen when she allegedly detonated a car bomb in 2015, according to Israeli authorities. Her family, however, claims that the fire originated from a fault in her car. According to the Israeli police, Jaabis, a 31-year-old Palestinian, planned to detonate a gas tank near a soldiers' hitchhiking station close to Ma'ale Adumim. According to the Shin Bet, officer Moshe Chen stopped Jaabis's car, at which point she yelled "Allahu Akbar" and detonated the bomb. Moshe, who sustained injuries in the attack, including burns to his face and chest, received a commendation from the police for his actions. Ma'ale Adumim

2023 Israel–Hamas War Hostage Crisis
On 7 October 2023, as part of Operation Al-Aqsa Flood at the beginning of the 2023 Israel–Hamas war, Palestinian militants (led by Hamas) abducted around 250 people from Israel to the Gaza Strip with the stated goal of forcing Israel to release Palestinian prisoners. As of January 7, 2024, 110 hostages were returned alive to Israel, with 105 being released in a prisoner exchange deal, 4 were released by Hamas unilaterally and 1 hostage was rescued by the IDF. 27 hostages were reportedly killed in Hamas captivity according to Israel, 3 of the hostages were killed by friendly fire from the IDF and the bodies of 8 hostages were repatriated through a military operation – 136 remain in captivity in the Gaza Strip. Shorouq Salah Dwayyat is a Palestinian woman from Sur Baher who was convicted for a stabbing attack and served a prison sentence in Israel between 2015 and 2023, when she was released in exchange of captives between Israel and Hamas. On October 7, 2015, Dwayyat, then an 18-year-old university student from East Jerusalem, carried out a stabbing attack in Jerusalem's Old City. She attacked 36 years old Daniel Rosenfeld, inflicting moderate injuries on him. The incident escalated when Dwayyat attempted to stab another man, Zvi Greenspan, but was subsequently shot and critically injured by Rosenfeld. Prior to the attack, Dwayyat had expressed on Facebook a desire to die as a "martyr" for the Palestinian cause.
