West Greece
Western Greece Region (, ) is one of the thirteen Modern regions of Greece, administrative regions of Greece. It comprises the western part of Central Greece (geographic region), continental Greece and the northwestern part of the Peloponnese peninsula. Achaea () or Achaia (), sometimes transliterated from Greek language, Greek as Akhaia (, ''Akhaḯa'', ), is one of the regional units of Greece. It is part of the modern regions of Greece, region of Western Greece and is situated in the northwestern part of the Peloponnese peninsula. The capital is Patras which is the third largest city in Greece. Geography Achaea is bordered by Elis (regional unit), Elis to the west and southwest, Arcadia (regional unit), Arcadia to the south, and Corinthia to the east and southeast. Farres
Farres () is a former municipality in Achaea, West Greece, Greece. Since the 2011 local government reform, it is part of the municipality Erymanthos, of which it is a municipal unit. The municipal unit has an area of 241.848 km2. The municipality of Farres existed between 1835 and 1912, and again between 1998 and 2011. Its seat of administration was in the town Chalandritsa. Farres is situated in the centre of Achaea, on the upper courses of the rivers Peiros and Parapeiros. Towards the southeast (Mount Erymanthos) and northeast (Panachaiko) the terrain is increasingly mountainous. It is located about 15 km south of Patras and 30 km west of Kalavryta. The Greek National Road 33 (Patras - Tripoli) runs through western Farres. Fares (; ; ) is a village and a community in the municipal unit of Farres, Achaea, Greek. It is located on the left bank of the river Peiros, 2 km southeast of Isoma and 17 km south of Patras. The community includes the village Prevedos. Prevedos is on the Greek National Road 33 (Patras - Tripoli). History Fares is named after the ancient town Pharae, which might be named after the Greek mythological figure Pharis, son of Hermes and the Danaid Philodameia. Patras
Patras (; ; Katharevousa and ; ) is Greece's List of cities in Greece, third-largest city and the regional capital and largest city of Western Greece, in the northern Peloponnese, west of Athens. Peiros
The Peiros (, formerly also ''Kamenitza'' and ''Achelous'') is a river in the central and the northwestern parts of Achaea, Greece. It is long. Geography The Peiros is the second longest river in Achaea, after Selinountas (river), Selinountas. It rises in the northeastern part of the Mount Erymanthos, Erymanthos mountains, near the village Farres, Lakkomata. It passes through the municipal units of Farres, Olenia and Dymi, Achaea, Dymi. It empties into the Gulf of Patras between the towns Alissos and Kato Achaia.
