Isola Minore
Isola Minore, known until the twentieth century simply as ''l'isoletta'' (‘the little island’), is the smallest of the three islands of Lago Trasimeno in central Italy, and the closest to Passignano sul Trasimeno within whose municipal boundaries it lies. It rises to about 20 metres above the level of the lake (itself 258 m above sea level), and takes the form of a comma with dimensions of about 450 x 260 m and an area of some 5 hectares. It is about 470 m NE of the larger island of Isola Maggiore. Isola Minore is covered by woodland, with pines and Quercus rotundifolia, holm oaks providing protection for the nesting sites of numerous cormorants. In the Middle Ages it had rather a large population. During the fifteenth century however the inhabitants transferred ''en masse'' to the mainland to escape from the depredations of brigands and subsequently it has been home only to the occasional hermit. Lago Trasimeno
Lake Trasimeno ( , also ; ; ; ), also referred to as Trasimene ( ), Trasimeno Lake, or Thrasimene in English, is a lake in the province of Perugia, in the Umbria region of Italy on the border with Tuscany. The lake has a surface area of , making it the fourth largest in Italy, slightly smaller than Lake Como. Only two minor streams flow directly into the Lake and none flows out. The water level of the lake fluctuates significantly according to rainfall levels and the seasonal demands from the towns, villages and farms near the shore. Description Trasimeno is shallow, muddy, and rich in fish, including pike, carp, and tench. During the last 10 years it has been 5 meters deep, on average. Passignano Sul Trasimeno
Passignano sul Trasimeno is a ''comune'' (municipality) in the Province of Perugia in the Italian region of Umbria, located about 20 km northwest of Perugia. It is one of I Borghi più belli d'Italia ("The most beautiful villages of Italy"). Passignano was home to a historic Italian airplane factory, the SAI Ambrosini, now abandoned as an industrial center but still used as an association center. Its buildings still exist near the Passignano sul Trasimeno railway station. Aircraft were tested at Eleuteri airport, only a few kilometers away from the factory. SAI was involved mainly with Macchi during World War II, although Eleuteri was also used as a test center for the Ambrosini SS.4. Isola Maggiore
Isola Maggiore on the Trasimeno Lake is the second largest island of the lake (approximatel 24 hectares, ), in the Province of Perugia, Umbria, a region in central-northern Italy. The island is part of the ''comune'' of Tuoro sul Trasimeno, and is the only inhabited island on the lake Trasimeno, with a current population of 35. The Isola Maggiore is a charming and green island in Trasimeno Lake. The island is occupied by a number of buildings and architectural structures, in particular the Guglielmi Castle and the Church dedicated to the Archangel Michael, on the top of the hill. The island can be reached by boat from several ports, including Passignano sul Trasimeno.
