Isle Of Man Prison
Isle of Man Prison is a mixed-use prison located in the Jurby parish of the Isle of Man. The prison is operated by the Isle of Man Prison Service (part of the Department of Home Affairs (Isle of Man), Department of Home Affairs) and is the only functioning prison on the island. History From 1891 the prison population of the Isle of Man was held at the Victoria Road Prison in Douglas, Isle of Man, Douglas. Although expanded many times over the course of its history, overcrowding at the prison was a recurring problem from the 1990s onwards, and the prison was often criticised for its limited and outdated facilities. Jurby
Jurby ( – deer settlement - animal park) () is one of the seventeen List of parishes of the Isle of Man, parishes of the Isle of Man. It is located in the north-west of the island (part of the traditional ''North Side'' division) in the sheading of Michael (sheading), Michael. Jurby has the same meaning as Derby, both originating from the Scandinavian term for a deer farm or park; 'djúra-bý.' The earliest known reference to Jurby comes from 1291, when it appears as 'Dureby,' but by 1588 it had morphed into being today's Jurby. The introduction of Derby as a placename in the Isle of Man came much later, such as with the appearance of Derbyhaven in 1507, when it came from the surname of the then Lord of Mann, Lords of Man. Guernsey Prison
Guernsey Prison (also known as Les Nicolles Prison) is a mixed-use prison on the island of Guernsey. Opened in 1989, it is currently Guernsey's only prison, and therefore accommodates male, female and vulnerable prisoners, both of juvenile and adult ages. The prison has 11 wings, and a capacity of 139. It is operated by the States of Guernsey. History The prison has seen its population fluctuate considerably over the years. John Trevor Roche Baines (19 December 1939 – 1 August 2022) was a British convicted criminal, formerly a businessman, who claimed to have amassed an estimated fortune of over £130 million, through banking, financial trading, and investment in the Miss World competition. National Vocational Qualification
National Vocational Qualifications (NVQs) are practical work-based awards in England, Wales, and Northern Ireland that are achieved through training and assessment. The regulatory framework supporting NVQs was withdrawn in 2015 and replaced by the Regulated Qualifications Framework (National qualifications frameworks in the United Kingdom, RQF), although the term "NVQ" may be used in RQF qualifications if they "are based on recognised occupational standards, work-based and/or simulated work-based assessment and where they confer occupational competence".
