Islamic Solidarity Games
The Islamic Solidarity Games () is a multinational, multi-sport event. Managed jointly by the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) and Islamic Solidarity Sports Association (ISSA), the Games involve elite athletes of the OIC competing in a variety of sports. The most recent edition was held in Konya, Turkey, in 2022. The next edition will take place in 2025 in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. Background The Solidarity Games were established to strengthen Islamic camaraderie and reinforce the values of Islam, primarily to the youth. The ISSF strives to improve Islamic solidarity, promote Islamic identity in sports and help reduce discrimination toward Muslims. There are currently 57 members of the OIC. Non-Muslim citizens from member countries are also allowed to take part in the Games. 2017 Islamic Solidarity Games
The 4th Islamic Solidarity Games () was a multinational, multi-sport event that was held in Baku, Azerbaijan, from May 12 to 22, 2017. Previously, the event was held in Saudi Arabia in 2005 and Indonesia in 2013. The second event, originally scheduled to take place in October 2009 in Iran, was later rescheduled but then cancelled. The Islamic Solidarity Sports Federation (ISSF) is responsible for the direction and control of the Islamic Solidarity Games. Bidding In October 2012, the National Olympic Committee of Azerbaijan submitted its bid for the 2017 Islamic Solidarity Games during the 18th Islamic Solidarity Sports Federation meeting held in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. Baku was awarded the event during the General Assembly of ISSF in 2013, which was also held in Jeddah. 2021 Islamic Solidarity Games
The 2021 Islamic Solidarity Games () were the 5th edition of the event held from 9 to 18 August 2022 at Konya, Turkey under the aegis of Islamic Solidarity Sports Federation (ISSF). It was the first time in history that the event was organised by the Turkish Olympic Committee. Formerly scheduled to take place from 20 to 29 August 2021, the event was postponed to be held from 10 to 19 September 2021 in July 2020 by the ISSF because the original dates were coinciding with the 2020 Summer Olympics, which were postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. In May 2021, the ISSF postponed the event to August 2022 citing the COVID-19 pandemic situation in the participating countries. The 3rd Islamic Solidarity Games ( Indonesian: ''Pesta Olahraga Solidaritas Islam 2013'') was an international sporting event held in Palembang, Indonesia from 22 September to 1 October 2013. The 2009 event, originally scheduled to take place in Iran, and later rescheduled for April 2010, was cancelled after a dispute arose between Iran and the Arab countries. Host selection Indonesia was announced as the host for the Games in April 2011 with Pekanbaru, Riau, as the host city. However, the Games were then relocated to Jakarta citing lack of standard at some venues combined with a corruption case involving Governor of Riau, Rusli Zainal.
