Yeghishe Ishkhanian
Yeghishe Ishkhanian (; January 1, 1886, Shusha – April 28, 1975) was a prominent Armenian politician and statesman, who held high offices in the Nagorno-Karabakh in the beginning of the 20th century. From July 27, 1918, to February 20, 1919, Ishkhanian headed the People's Government of Karabakh (subsequently renamed the Karabakh Council). Subsequently, he was elected to be vice-president of the National Council. Early life Yeghishe Ishkhanian was born in the capital city Shusha (local name: ''Shushi''). He was the son of Hovhanes-Bek Ishkhanian, a civil servant in the Customs and Excise, a well-known man in Nagrono-Karabakh and a close friend of Armenian bishop Vahan Ter-Georgian. Ishkhanian received his primary and secondary education in Shusha and graduated from Yerevan's Diocesan School. Avetik Rafayel Ishkhanian (; 25 February 1955 – 16 February 2025) was an Armenian human rights activist. Biography Born in Yerevan on 25 February 1955, Ishkhanian was the son of Rafayel Ishkhanian and his maternal grandfather was . Rafayel Ishkhanian
Rafayel Avetisi Ishkhanyan (, 9 March 1922 – 6 February 1995) was an Armenian linguist, philologist and historian. He was a professor of the Yerevan State University. Biography Ishkhanyan was born in Yerevan in 1922 to Bolshevik revolutionaries Avetis and Haykanush Ishkhanian. His father Avetis was executed in 1937 during the Great Purge. In 1939, Ishkhanyan entered the department of philology of Yerevan State University (YSU). He was called up for military service in 1940 and participated in World War II, during which he was wounded and taken prisoner, then released from imprisonment and continued his service. After demobilization, he continued his studies and graduated from YSU in 1949. In 1954 he graduated from the Moscow State Library Institute. In 1973 he defended his doctoral dissertation on the subject "History of the language of new Armenian literature". Hagop Ishkanian
Hagop Ishkanian (, born 27 July 1938) is a contemporary Armenian and American sculptor. Biography Hagop Ishkanian was born on 27 July 1938 in Cairo, Egypt. In 1948 he emigrated with his family to Soviet Armenia. In 1964 he graduated from the Yerevan State Institute of Creative Art and Theatre (now known as the Yerevan State Academy of Art). That same year he participated in exhibitions organised by the state and the Armenian Union of Artists. In 1968 he joined the Armenian Union of Painters. Until 1977 he was a senior lecturer at the Yerevan Pedagogical Institute. In 1977 he emigrated to the United States where he continues to live and work. Hagop Ishkanian's works are housed in the National Gallery of Armenia and private collections around the world. In the United States, Ishkanian worked as an exterior and interior designer creating bespoke art and fixtures for a range of clients.
