George Ishiyama
George Ishiyama (1914–2003) was a Japanese-American businessman who was president of Alaska Pulp Corporation (APC) in Sitka, Alaska between 1983 and 2003. Early life and education Ishiyama was born and raised in Los Angeles, California, and completed a bachelor's degree in economics from the University of California at Los Angeles in 1936. Career He and his family were interned during World War II at camps in Topaz War Relocation Center, Utah and Heart Mountain Relocation Center, Wyoming following the signing of Executive Order 9066. However, because Ishiyama determined ways to improve camps operations he was assigned to work in Washington, D.C., with the Department of Interior which had charge of the camps. After the war, Ishiyama traveled to Japan to assist in its rebuilding, and to assist in mutual understanding between the United States and Japan. This became a constant theme of his life. John Ishiyama
John Toaru Ishiyama (born 1960) is an American political scientist. He is a University Distinguished Research Professor of Political Science, and Chairperson of the Department of Political Science. He is also the Piper Professor of Texas at the University of North Texas. He studies comparative politics, particularly the party structure and democratization of Post-Soviet states, as well as the politics of Ethiopia. He is a past President of the American Political Science Association. Education and early work Ishiyama grew up in Parma, Ohio. He has credited his decision to become a political scientist with an early interest in how things change and evolve. Ishiyama attended Bowling Green State University, graduating with a BA in political science and history in 1982.
