Annie Isherwood
Annie Cecile Ramsbottom Isherwood (1862, in Uxbridge, England - 20 February 1906) was an Anglican nun and founder of the Community of the Resurrection of our Lord in Grahamstown. She was known as Mother Cecile CR (pronounced Cecil). Early life Annie Isherwood was born in Uxbridge, Middlesex, England on 14 November 1862 to Richard Ramsbottom-Isherwood and Anna Clarendon (born Cox). One of her older siblings was future England rugby international and cricketer Francis Isherwood. Annie was educated privately and with the death of her mother in 1870 and father in 1875 she was orphaned by the age of 12. She was brought up by relatives in London where she attended St Peter's Church, Eaton Square. Geof Isherwood (born December 4, 1960) is an American painter, sculptor and comic book illustrator. Career Much of Isherwood's early work was done for Marvel Comics, including such titles as ''Silver Surfer'', ''Conan the Barbarian'', ''Daredevil'', and '' Doctor Strange''. Since then, he has been involved in movies as a storyboard artist and a concepts/production illustrator, working with the likes of Bryan Singer, Richard Donner and Darren Aronofsky. James Lawrence Isherwood
James Lawrence Isherwood (1917–1989) was an English artist, born in Wigan, Lancashire. He often painted subject and images (landscapes, seascapes, and portraits) from the Wigan area in a style that became known as 'Wigan style'. His style has been described as Impressionist/Expressionist. Isherwood was a friend of the artist L. S. Lowry, who purchased his ''Woman with Black Cat'' and displayed it at his home. A BBC documentary, ''I am Isherwood'' was made in 1974 about the artist and his work. This was transmitted twice by the BBC, once in 1974 and again in 1975. Isherwood died in 1989. Jean de Courtenay Isherwood OAM, FRAS, AWI, (1911–2006), was an Australian watercolour and oil painter, and teacher, renowned for her colourful depictions of the Australian countryside. Biography Isherwood was born in Marrickville, New South Wales, Marrickville, Sydney in 1911. At the age of fourteen she won a scholarship to the National Art School at East Sydney Technical College. In the dramatic architectural surroundings which had previously comprised Darlinghurst Gaol, Isherwood learned an appreciation of linear perspective and accurate draughtsmanship which she later applied with great skill to her rural landscapes. In 1929 she commenced work as a fashion artist with an advertising agency, continuing her studies for a further five years at the National Art School and Royal Art Society as an evening student. Joseph Isherwood
Sir Joseph William Isherwood, 1st Baronet (23 June 1870 – 24 October 1937) was a British naval architect. He invented the Isherwood System of longitudinal construction of ships and the Arcform System. Isherwood was born in Hartlepool, the son of a grocer. He was educated at Luggs School on the Headland, near St Hilda's church, and at the age of fifteen entered the drawing office of the Hartlepool shipbuilders Edward Withy & Co. He served in several departments in that firm and in 1896 left to become a ship surveyor with Lloyd's Register of Shipping. Here he developed the Isherwood System, a new stronger, safer, and cheaper longitudinal girder form of ship construction designed to replace the traditional traverse construction method (ribs placed at regular intervals along the keel), which he patented in 1906. Raymond Charles Isherwood (29 January 1938 in Melbourne, Victoria – 24 September 2014 in Adelaide, South Australia) was an Australian Test cricket umpire. Isherwood umpired in three Test matches between 1984 and 1985. His first match was between Australia and the West Indies at Sydney on 30 December 1984 to 2 January 1985, won by Australia by an innings and 55 runs, upsetting the powerful West Indians on a turning pitch.
