Iseran
Col de l'Iseran (el. ) is a mountain pass in France, the highest paved pass in the Alps. A part of the Graian Alps, it is in the department of Savoie, near the border with Italy, and is crossed by the D902 roadway. The pass is part of the Route des Grandes Alpes. It connects the valley of the Isère ('' Tarentaise'') and the valley of the Arc River (''Maurienne'') between Val-d'Isère in the north and Bonneval-sur-Arc in the south. On the northern side is the popular Tignes – Val d'Isère ski resort. The pass is only accessible by road during the summer months. In the winter it can only be accessed by a series of pistes and ski lifts. The Col is also accessible by off-road mountain paths and is the highest point both of the Alpine GR 5, a long-distance trail from Lake Geneva to Nice, and of the similar Grande Traversée des Alpes. List Of Highest Paved Roads In The Alps
This is a list of the highest paved roads in Europe. It includes roads that are at least long and whose culminating point is at least above sea level. This height approximately corresponds to that of the highest settlements in Europe and to the tree line in several mountain ranges such as the Alps and the Pyrenees, where most of the highest roads are located. Some of the listed roads are closed to motorized vehicles, although they are normally all accessible to pedestrians and cyclists. These mountain roads are visited by drivers, motorcyclists, bicyclists and hikers for their scenery and often feature in the routes of European bicycle races such as the Giro d'Italia, the Tour de Suisse, the Tour of Austria, the Tour de France and the Vuelta a España. The Graian Alps (Latin language, Latin:: ''Alpes Graiæ'' ; ; ) are a mountain range in the western part of the Alps, and the name of an Roman province, Antic Rome province. Etymology The name ''Graie'' comes from the ''Graioceli'' Celts, Celtic tribe, which dwelled in the area surrounding the Mont Cenis pass and the Viù valley. Other sources claim that the name comes from the Celtic ''Graig'' meaning "rock" or "stone", literally the Rocky Mountains. The name of the Roman province, Antic Rome province comes from the local celtic god Graius. Route Des Grandes Alpes
The Route des Grandes Alpes is a tourist itinerary through the French Alps between Lake Geneva and the French Riviera passing over all the high Principal passes of the Alps, passes of the Alps within France. The road starts at Thonon-les-Bains and climbs via Les Gets and Cluses. It then heads to Saint-Gervais-les-Bains, Saint-Gervais and Megève, over the ''Col des Saisies'' (). It then passes through Beaufort, Savoie, Beaufort, Bourg-Saint-Maurice and onto Val-d'Isère. The road then crosses the ''Col de l'Iseran'' ().
