Isanavarman I
Īśānavarman (, , Iśânasena) or Yīshēnàxiāndài ( zh, s=伊奢那先代) was a king of the kingdom of Chenla in 7th century, which would later become the Khmer Empire. He was the son of, and successor to Mahendravarman.Higham, C., 2014, Early Mainland Southeast Asia, Bangkok: River Books Co., Ltd., The name Isanavarman was derived from the word '' Siva''. King Isanavarman was also called Protégé of the Master Siva. After Mahendravarman's death, Isanavarman took Isanapura as his capital. The Sambor Prei Kuk historical complex has been identified as Isanapura, the 7th century capital of Chenla. The main temples at Sambor Prei Kuk are said to have been founded by King Isanavarman I. The ''Book of Sui'', compiled in 636, states that at the beginning of the 7th century, Zhēnlà was ruled by one Yīshēnàxiāndài (Īśānavarman) (伊奢那先代). Ishanavarman
Iśanavarman (Gupta script: , ''Ī-śā-na-va-rmmā'') was the first independent Maukhari dynasty, Maukhari king of the Kingdom of Kannauj. He was a very powerful king, and adopted the title of ''Maharajadhiraja''. Early life Ishanavarman was the son of the powerful Maukhari ruler Ishvara-varman (Iśvaravarman) and his queen Devi Upagupta. He was well known for his skill as an archer, particularly against enemy cavalry and elephants. Ishanavarman ascended the throne in 550 CE or 554 CE, probably after his father's death. Reign The early Maukhari rulers had been on very friendly terms with the Later Guptas, and even conducted marriage alliances between themselves. Ishanavarman II () was an Angkorian king who is believed to have ruled from 923 to 928. His empire may have been confined to Angkor and the area around Battambang to the west.
