Isadora Records
Isadora Records is an independent record label started and operated by Hawksley Workman. The first album released was Workman's own debut, '' For Him and the Girls'', in 1999.LeBlanc, Larry (April 7, 2001). "Canadian singer/songwriter Hawksley Workman lets 'The Wolves' out on his own Isadora label", ''Billboard'' 113 (14): 71–2. The label has been releasing albums online since 2004. Isadora's earlier releases were manufactured and distributed by Universal Music, but more recently they have been distributed by Warner Music in Canada, Sheer Music in the US, and Alternative Distribution Alliance in other markets. The company's logo, a nude silhouette, was designed by Workman's mother, artist Beverly Hawksley. The name ''Isadora'' originated with a publicity campaign in which Workman published love letters, and classified ads in ''Now'' magazine, to the fictitious Isadora, an idealized lover. Independent Record Label
An independent record label (or indie label) is a record label that operates without the funding or distribution of major record labels; they are a type of small- to medium-sized enterprise, or SME. The labels and artists are often represented by trade associations in their country or region, which in turn are represented by the international trade body, the Worldwide Independent Network (WIN). Many of the labels started as producers and distributors of specific genres of music, such as jazz music, or represent something new and non-mainstream, such as Elvis Presley in the early days. Indies release rock, soul, R&B, jazz, blues, gospel, reggae, hip hop, and world music. Music appearing on indie labels is often referred to as indie music, or more specifically by genre, such as indie hip-hop. Vanity Record Labels
Vanity is the excessive belief in one's own abilities or attractiveness to others. Prior to the 14th century it did not have such narcissistic undertones, and merely meant ''futility''. Hawksley Workman
Hawksley Workman (Born Ryan Corrigan, March 4, 1975) is a Canadian rock singer-songwriter who has garnered critical acclaim for his blend of cabaret pop and glam rock. Workman has released eleven full-length albums throughout his career. A multi-instrumentalist, he plays guitar, drums, bass, keyboards and sings on his records, often switching between those instruments when playing live. Workman is a prolific artist, usually writing, recording, mastering and releasing entire albums in the span of a few weeks.
