Isaac Wulff Heyman
Isaac Wulff Heyman (1 November 1818 – 19 June 1884) was a Danish businessman and philanthropist. He was the elder half-brother of Tuborg Brewery founder Philip Heyman. Early life Heyman was born in Copenhagen, the son of Wulff Philip Heyman (1794–1866) and Gittel Isaac Moses (c. 1792–1833). His father was after the mother's early death married second time to Jacobine Meyer (1812–1873) in 1835. Career Heyman was just 18 years old when he started his own brokerage firm in a partnership with I. M. Levin, benefitting from favourable market conditions prior to leaving it again in 1849. He worked as a broker for a few more years but increasingly engaged in real estate investments, development projects and industrial enterprises. In 1853, he established the Svanholm Brewery on Gammel Kongevej in a partnership with his father. Order Of The Dannebrog
The Order of the Dannebrog ( da, Dannebrogordenen) is a Danish order of chivalry instituted in 1671 by Christian V. Until 1808, membership in the order was limited to fifty members of noble or royal rank, who formed a single class known as ''White Knights'' to distinguish them from the ''Blue Knights'' who were members of the Order of the Elephant. In 1808, the Order was reformed and divided into four classes. The ''Grand Commander'' class is reserved to persons of princely origin. It is awarded only to royalty with close family ties with the Danish Royal House. The statute of the Order was amended in 1951 by a Royal Ordinance so that both men and women could be members of the Order. Today, the Order of the Dannebrog is a means of honouring and rewarding the faithful servants of the modern Danish state for meritorious civil or military service, for a particular contribution to the arts, sciences or business life, or for working for Danish interests. The history of the Jews in Denmark goes back to the 1600s. At present, the Jewish community of Denmark constitutes a small minority of about 6,000 persons within Danish society. The community's population peaked prior to the Holocaust at which time the Danish resistance movement (with the assistance of many ordinary Danish citizens) took part in a collective effort to evacuate about 8,000 Jews and their families from Denmark by sea to nearby neutral Sweden, an act which ensured the safety of almost all the Danish Jews. Origins Medieval Danish art contains depictions of Jews—visibly wearing pointed hats—but there is no evidence that any Jews actually lived in Denmark during that time. Dannebrogordenens Hæderstegn, also referred to as the Cross of Honour of the Order of the Dannebrog ( post-nominals: D.Ht.), is a meritous award connected to the Danish Order of the Dannebrog. The cross was instituted by King Frederick VI of Denmark and Norway on 28 June 1808, and was named Dannebrogsmændenes Hæderstegn (D.M.) until 1952. The cross may be awarded to Danes who have provided a service to "the fatherland" through a noble deed. It is also worn by the individual members of the royal family. The cross is of lesser rank than the Order of the Dannebrog, but is considered an additional recognition if awarded (and in modern times it is only awarded) to someone who is already a holder of the Order.
