The following is a list of characters that first appeared in the British soap opera ''Emmerdale'' in 2010, by order of first appearance. All characters were introduced by the soap's executive producer, Steve Frost. Charlie Haynes Charles "Charlie" Haynes, played by George Costigan, is an old friend of Rodney Blackstock ( Patrick Mower). He made his first on-screen appearance on 8 March 2010. Victoria Sugden (also Barton) is a fictional character from the British ITV soap opera ''Emmerdale'', played since 12 October 2006 by Isabel Hodgins. James Thornton (born 31 October 1975) is an English actor and voice-over artist. He portrayed John Barton (Emmerdale), John Barton in the British soap opera ''Emmerdale'' from 2009 to 2012; he previously appeared in the show in 1995. John Barton is a fictional character from the Television in the United Kingdom, British soap opera ''Emmerdale'', played by James Thornton (actor), James Thornton. The actor was asked to audition for the part and he called it the "most frightening audition" he had ever done. Thornton won the role of John, who was introduced to ''Emmerdale'' along with his family as part of an overhaul of the show by the series producer Gavin Blyth. Holly Barton is a fictional character from the British ITV soap opera ''Emmerdale'', played by Sophie Powles. She made her first on-screen appearance during the episode broadcast on 17 July 2009.
