Isa Phillips
Isa Phillips (born 22 April 1984) is a Jamaican hurdling athlete who specialises in the 400 metres hurdles. The Kingston native made his international debut at the 2001 World Youth Championships in Athletics, finishing sixth in the 400 m hurdles semi-finals. He won the national under-18s championship in the event in 2001. Phillips took to the senior circuit in 2003 and broke the 50-second-barrier in 2005, setting a personal best of 49.96 seconds in Arlington, Texas. His first major competition was the 2007 World Championships in Athletics where he finished fourth in the heats. The following year he represented Jamaica at the 2008 Summer Olympics and reached the semi-finals of the 400 m hurdles. Kingston, Jamaica
Kingston is the Capital (political), capital and largest city of Jamaica, located on the southeastern coast of the island. 400 Metres Hurdles
The 400 metres hurdles is a track and field hurdling event. The event has been on the Summer Olympics, Olympic Sport of athletics, athletics programme since 1900 Summer Olympics, 1900 for men and since 1984 Summer Olympics, 1984 for women. On a standard outdoor track, 400 metres is the length of the inside lane, once around the stadium. Runners stay in their lanes the entire way after starting out of the blocks and must clear ten Hurdling, hurdles that are evenly spaced around the track. The hurdles are positioned and weighted so that they fall forward if bumped into with sufficient force, to prevent injury to the runners. Although there is no longer any penalty for knocking hurdles over, runners prefer to clear them cleanly, as touching them during the race slows runners down. The LSU Tigers and Lady Tigers (also known as the Fighting Tigers) are the athletic teams representing Louisiana State University (LSU), a state university located in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Winthrop Graham
Winthrop Graham (born 17 November 1965 in Westmoreland, Jamaica) is a retired athlete who mainly competed in the 400 metres hurdles. He won two Olympic medals and three World Championship medals. His personal best time was 47.60 seconds, achieved in August 1993 at the Zurich Weltklasse meet where he beat Samuel Matete and Kevin Young. This was also the Jamaican record. Kerron Stephon Clement (born October 31, 1985) is a Trinidadian-born American track and field athlete who competes in the 400-meter hurdles and 400-meter sprint. Danny D. McFarlane, OD (born 14 June 1972) is a Jamaican hurdler, who has won numerous international medals in individual and relay contests. Having won five medals at the World Championships in Athletics and an Olympic bronze medal with the Jamaican 4 x 400 metres team, McFarlane has also won in individual competition: he took an Olympic silver medal in the 400 metres hurdles at the 2004 Athens Olympics. He competed collegiately for the University of Oklahoma. At Oklahoma, McFarlane won the 1997 4 × 400 meter relay at the NCAA Division I Outdoor Track and Field Championships. 2008 World Athletics Final
The 6th IAAF World Athletics Final was held at the Mercedes-Benz Arena in Stuttgart, Germany on September 13 and September 14, 2008. A number of road races also took place on the second day of competition. There were seven different starting points around the Stuttgart area and the distances varied from 21 to 30 kilometres, with every race finishing in the Arena. Runners could join mid-race at specified times to allow for shorter distances and the aim was to have the runners finishing at a similar time. The road race ceremony was inspired by a similar event during the 1993 World Championships in Athletics, which was also held in the city.
