Irving Wheeler Small (July 19, 1891 – December 12, 1955) was an American ice hockey player who competed in the 1924 Winter Olympics The 1924 Winter Olympics, officially known as the I Olympic Winter Games (french: Iers Jeux olympiques d'hiver) and commonly known as Chamonix 1924 ( frp, Chamôni 1924), were a winter multi-sport event which was held in 1924 in Chamonix, France .... He was a member of the American ice hockey team, which won the silver medal in the 1924 Chamonix games. Biography Irving Small was born in Cambridge, Massachusetts, and died in Monrovia, California. He was brought up in Massachusetts and played amateur hockey in Boston. In 1913, however, he moved to California, but came east to play hockey during the winters. United States Amateur Hockey Association
The United States Amateur Hockey Association (USAHA) was an ice hockey governing body in the United States from 1920 to 1925, which operated at an amateur level. The league was filled with predominantly Canadian-born players, but struggled to achieve consistent attendance figures in the days before large arenas with artificial ice. The association disbanded in 1925, with some teams eventually joining the American Hockey Association, and one team joining the National Hockey League. The Westminster Hockey Club (also known as the Westminsters or the Waiters) was an American amateur ice hockey team that played in the United States Amateur Hockey Association from 1921 to 1924. The team played its first season in Boston and won the 1922 USAHA championship. The team moved to New Haven, Connecticut for the 1922–23 season and, during that season, were kicked out of the league for failing to show up for a scheduled game. The Westminsters were then replaced by the New Haven Bears, which consisted of most of the same players as the Westminster Hockey Club, but had different management.
