Irvin A. Etler
Irvin A. Etler Jr. (November 4, 1935 – February 10, 2010) was an American college football coach and entrepreneur. Born in Covington, Kentucky, Etler was a graduate of Erlanger High School. After high school, Etler attended Xavier University and played quarterback for the Musketeers from 1956 to 1959. Upon graduation Etler served in the Marines before joining the coaching staff at Xavier in 1963 as the head coach of the freshman squad. He then served as defensive coordinator for four years before his promotion to head coach in January 1969. In his lone season as head coach, Etler led Xavier to a 1–9 record and resigned from the program in December 1969. Covington is a home rule-class city in Kenton County, Kentucky, United States, located at the confluence of the Ohio and Licking Rivers. Cincinnati, Ohio, lies to its immediate north across the Ohio and Newport, to its east across the Licking and Ludlow to its west. 1969 NCAA University Division Football Season
The 1969 NCAA University Division football season was celebrated as the centennial of college football (the first season being the one in 1869). During the 20th century, the NCAA had no playoff for the major college football teams, later known as "Division I-A." The NCAA Football Guide, however, did note an "unofficial national champion" based on the top-ranked teams in the "wire service" (AP and UPI) polls. The "writers' poll" by Associated Press (AP) was the most popular, followed by the "coaches' poll" by United Press International (UPI). In 1969, the UPI issued its final poll before the bowls, but the AP Trophy was withheld until the postseason was completed. The AP poll in 1969 consisted of the votes of as many as 45 sportswriters, though not all of them voted in every poll. Those who cast votes would give their opinion of the twenty best teams. NCAA University Division
The NCAA University Division was a historic subdivision of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) consisting of member schools competing at the highest level of college sports. The University Division was first established as a basis for determining eligibility to participate in the 1957 NCAA University Division basketball tournament. It was replaced in 1973 with the creation of NCAA Division I. Origin The University Division began for purposes of college basketball. In August 1956, NCAA executive director Walter Byers announced that, starting in 1957, the NCAA would hold separate basketball tournaments for major schools and smaller colleges. Greenhills, Ohio
Greenhills is a village in Hamilton County, Ohio, United States. The population was 3,615 at the 2010 census. A planned community, it was established by the United States government during the Great Depression. Most of the village is a National Historic Landmark for its history as a planned modernist community. History and significance As one of three Greenbelt Communities built by the Resettlement Administration during the 1930s (the other two are Greenbelt, Maryland and Greendale, Wisconsin), Greenhills was designed to be surrounded by a "belt" of woodland and natural landscaping.
