Irulum Oliyum
''Irulum Oliyum'' () is a 1971 Indian Tamil-language romantic drama film, directed and co-written by Puttanna Kanagal. A remake of Kanagal's own Kannada film ''Kappu Bilupu'' (1969), itself based on a novel by Aryammba Pattabi, it stars Vanisri in dual roles with A. V. M. Rajan and R. Muthuraman. It was again remade by the same director in telugu as Iddaru Ammayilu with Vanisri reprising her role. The film revolves around two lookalike cousin sisters who switch places for a few days to escape from their respective problems. It was released on 10 September 1971 and became a commercial success. Shubraveshti Ramaswamiah Seetharama Sharma (1 December 1933 – 5 June 1985), known popularly as S. R. Puttanna Kanagal, was an Indian filmmaker known for his work in Kannada cinema. He is often considered one of Kannada cinema's most influential filmmakers. Background and personal life Puttanna Kanagal was born to Ramaswamaiah and Subbamma in Kanagal, a village in the erstwhile Kingdom of Mysore into a poor family. As he hailed from a poor brahmin family, he had to endure hardships and struggled to get a decent job. He worked as a teacher, salesman and even as a cleaner. His job as a publicity boy brought him closer to theatre and subsequently to cinema. His association with films began when he started working for B. R. Bharathiraja (born 17 July 1941) is an Indian film director and actor who works mainly in the Tamil film industry. Making his debut in 1977 with ''16 Vayathinile'', he is known for realistic and sensitive portrayals of rural life in his films. As of 2017, he has won six National Film Awards, four Filmfare Awards South, two Tamil Nadu State Film Awards and a Nandi Award. He has also directed films in Telugu and Hindi. The Government of India honoured him with the Padma Shri award, India's fourth-highest civilian honour, in 2004 for his contribution to the film industry.
