Irondale is a village in Jefferson County, Ohio, United States. The population was 326 at the 2020 census. It is part of the Weirton–Steubenville metropolitan area. History Irondale was originally known as Pottsdale, for Samuel Potts, who started a salt operation at Yellow Creek ''circa'' 1806. In 1869 Morgan & Hunter laid out the original plat of what was then called Hunterville which later was changed to Irondale after the discovery of iron ore and other minerals used in the manufacture of tin. Coal mining began at the settlement in 1861. A blast furnace was built later to supply iron to the tin mill which gave the town its new name, Irondale. The first commercially successful tin mill in the United States operated in Irondale in the 1880s. Port Hadlock-Irondale is a census-designated place (CDP) in Jefferson County, Washington, United States. The population was 3,983 at the 2020 census. History of Irondale The first iron-producing blast furnace in Washington Territory was completed in Irondale in 1881. About 1,200 tons of pig iron was produced during its first year of operation, with ore obtained from Chimacum Valley. The plant was closed in 1889. The initial hope was for Irondale to become a major iron and steel producer for the western United States. At first, it looked as though this dream was going to come true. After only two years of production, Irondale had several bars, boarding facilities for both men and horses, and homes and accommodations for over 200 workers. The Irondale River is a river in Haliburton County in Central Ontario, Canada. It is part of the Great Lakes Basin, and is a left tributary of the Burnt River. The river flows begins at an unnamed lake in geographic Dudley Township in the municipality of Dysart et al, just southwest of the southern tip of Algonquin Provincial Park. It flows south, passes under Ontario Highway 118, then turns southwest, and passes over the High Falls. It continues southwest, passes into the municipality of Minden Hills, heads past the community of Irondale, and reaches its mouth at the Burnt River, northeast of the community of Kinmount. The Burnt River flows via the Kawartha Lakes, the Otonabee River and the Trent River to Lake Ontario.
