Irma (dog)
Crumstone Irma, a.k.a. Irma, was a German Shepherd Dog who assisted in the rescue of 191 people trapped under blitzed buildings while serving with London's Civil Defence Services during the Second World War. During this period she worked with her handler and owner, Mrs Margaret Griffin, and another dog named Psyche. Noted for her ability to tell if buried victims were dead or alive, she was awarded the Dickin Medal in 1945, and is buried at the PDSA Animal Cemetery, Ilford. Rescue career Irma was initially used as a messenger dog to relay messages when telephone lines were down. She was teamed with another dog from the same kennel, named Crumstone Psyche (commonly referred to as Psyche), and they were both retrained to become search and rescue dogs. The pair of dogs were handled by their owner, Mrs Margaret Griffin, and together the two dogs found 233 people, of which 21 were found alive. Operation Irma was the name applied to a series of airlifts of injured civilians from Bosnia and Herzegovina during the siege of Sarajevo. Irma Pany (born 15 July 1988), better known as Irma (), is a Cameroonian singer-songwriter living in France. Early life and education She was born in Douala in a family with a scientific background. Her father is a biologist and her mother is a pharmacist. As a child Irma was performing at Mass (liturgy), masses too. At age 15, she went to a high school in Paris, France, to improve her school education. In 2008, Irma entered ESCP Europe (Top French Business School) and graduated in the Master in Management in 2012. Irma Hotel
The Irma Hotel is a landmark in Cody, Wyoming. It was built by William F. " Buffalo Bill" Cody, the city's co-founder and namesake who named it after his daughter Irma Cody. A focal point is a famous back bar made of cherry that was a gift given by Queen Victoria to Buffalo Bill. The Irma opened with a party on November 18, 1902, to which Cody invited the press and dignitaries from as far away as Boston. The hotel quickly became the social center of Cody. In the meantime, Buffalo Bill was under pressure from creditors and was forced to sign over the hotel to his wife Louisa in 1913, who was at that time on bad terms with him. After Cody's death in 1917 the hotel was foreclosed upon and sold to Barney Link. Before the end of the year Link's estate sold the property back to Louisa, who kept it until she died in 1925. The new owners, Henry and Pearl Newell, gradually expanded the hotel, building an annex around 1930 on the west side to accommodate automobile-borne visitors. After ... Irma board, originally spelled IRMA board, refers to a brand of coaxial interface cards for Personal computer, PCs and Apple Macintosh, Macintosh computers used to enable 3270 emulator programs to connect to IBM Mainframe computer, mainframe computers. IRMA boards were used to connect PCs and Macs to IBM 3274 terminal controllers. IRMA boards supported both Control Unit Terminal (CUT) and Distributed Function Terminal (DFT) mode, although the later required additional software–DFT mode supported multiple simultaneous mainframe sessions.
