Irish Hunger Memorial
The Irish Hunger Memorial is a park at the corner of Vesey Street and North End Avenue in the Battery Park City neighborhood of Manhattan in New York City. The memorial is dedicated to raising awareness of the Great Irish Hunger, referred to as ''An Gorta Mór'' in Irish, in which over one million starved to death between 1845 and 1852. In the decade after 1845, over 900,000 Irish emigrants entered the port of New York so that by 1855 Irish-born New Yorkers comprised almost one third of the city's population. Construction of the memorial began in March 2001, and despite the September 11 attacks on the nearby World Trade Center, which also affected surrounding areas, the memorial was completed and dedicated on July 16, 2002. Land art, variously known as Earth art, environmental art, and Earthworks, is an art movement that emerged in the 1960s and 1970s, largely associated with Great Britain and the United StatesArt in the modern era: A guide to styles, schools, & movements. Battery Park City is a mainly residential planned community and neighborhood on the west side of the southern tip of the island of Manhattan in New York City. It is bounded by the Hudson River on the west, the Hudson River shoreline on the north and south, and the West Side Highway on the east. County Mayo (; ga, Contae Mhaigh Eo, meaning "Plain of the yew trees") is a county in Ireland. Attymass
Attymass () is a village in County Mayo, Ireland. History Evidence of ancient settlement in the area includes a number of ringforts (in the townlands of Carrick and Kilgellia) and several crannóg sites at nearby Ballymore Lough. The Roman Catholic church in the village was built in 1958 on the site of an earlier 19th century chapel. The Fr Patrick Peyton Memorial Centre, which was officially opened in 1998, commemorates the village's association with Fr Patrick Peyton. Peyton, also known as the "Rosary Priest", was the founder of the Family Rosary Crusade and was born in the area in 1909.
