Irina Morozova (violinist)
Irina Morozova is an Australian chamber violist, and founding member of the Goldner String Quartet and the Australia Ensemble. Life and career Irina Morozova began to play the violin aged five, and at 15 was made leader of her school orchestra. She switched to playing viola, and became principal viola player in the Australian Chamber Orchestra. While at University of New South Wales in 1980, Morozova was a founding member of the Australia Ensemble. In 1995, she formed the Goldner String Quartet with members of the Ensemble, including her husband Dene Olding, and couple Dimity Hall and Julian Smiles. Chamber Music
Chamber music is a form of classical music that is composed for a small group of Musical instrument, instruments—traditionally a group that could fit in a Great chamber, palace chamber or a large room. Most broadly, it includes any art music that is performed by a small number of performers, with one performer to a part (in contrast to orchestral music, in which each string part is played by a number of performers). However, by convention, it usually does not include solo instrument performances. Because of its intimate nature, chamber music has been described as "the music of friends". Goldner String Quartet
The Goldner String Quartet was an Australian string quartet formed in 1995 in honour of Richard Goldner, the founder of Musica Viva Australia, and disbanded at the end of 2024. History In 1997 the Goldner String Quartet made its debut at the Wigmore Hall in London, and has since appeared there regularly, as well as at the Cheltenham, Newbury and Brighton Festivals, and at the ''Saison musicale d'été de Sceaux'' in France. In March 2000, the Quartet performed a major retrospective of 20th century string quartets at the Adelaide Festival. In October 2001 the Quartet made its American debut with concerts at the 92nd Street Y in New York City, and in Washington, D.C. It has undertaken three extensive tours of New Zealand, including in 2006, and also toured to Korea that year. Australia Ensemble
Australia Ensemble UNSW is an Australian chamber group active since 1980. The group was founded in 1980 as the University of New South Wales Ensemble after a proposal put to the University of New South Wales by musicologist Roger Covell and clarinettist Murray Khouri, then colleagues at the University. Its current Artistic Chair is Paul Stanhope who took over from Covell in 2014. In October 1983 the University of New South Wales Ensemble was renamed the Australia Ensemble, Resident at the University of New South Wales. Since that time it has occupied a prominent position in Australian music, frequently touring in addition to a Sydney-based concert series. The Australian Chamber Orchestra (ACO) is an Australian orchestra focused on chamber music based in Sydney. Dene Olding
Dene Maxwell Olding (born 11 October 1956) is an Australian violinist. He has had a distinguished career as a soloist in Australia, New Zealand and the United States, performing over forty concertos in recent years, including many world premieres. He is the Concertmaster Emeritus of the Sydney Symphony Orchestra, first violinist in the Goldner String Quartet, and a member of the Australia Ensemble. Biography Dene Olding is the son of the husband and wife piano duo Max Olding and Pamela Page. He was initially educated at the Anglican Church Grammar School in Brisbane, but left at age 15—two years before he was due to graduate—to attend the Juilliard School in New York as a scholarship student of Ivan Galamian and Margaret Pardee. Dimity Hall
Dimity is a collective term for figured cloths of harness loom decorated with designs and patterns. It is a strong cotton cloth with various stripes and illustrations. Dimity is bleached or washed after looming, less often dyed—unlike fustian, which is usually dyed. It is a lightweight, sheer cotton fabric, having at least two warp threads thrown into relief to form fine cords. Richard Goldner
Richard Goldner (23 June 1908 – 27 September 1991) was a Romanian-born, Viennese-trained Australian violist, pedagogue and inventor.
