Irina Alekseyevna Abysova (russian: Ирина Алексеевна Абысова, born 7 November 1980 in Moscow) is a Russian open water swimmer and professional triathlete. A triathlon is an endurance multisport race consisting of swimming, cycling, and running over various distances. Triathletes compete for fastest overall completion time, racing each segment sequentially with the time transitioning between the disciplines included. The word is of Greek origin, from τρεῖς or ''treis'' (three) and ἆθλος or ''athlos'' (competition). The sport originated in the late 1970s in Southern California as sports clubs and individuals developed the sport. This history has meant that variations of the sport were created and still exist. Aquathlon
An aquathlon is a multisport race consisting of continuous run and swim elements. Competitors complete a swim immediately followed by a run over various distances. Athletes compete for fastest overall course completion, including the time transitioning between the disciplines. Aquathlon is one of a family of endurance based multisport races, which gained popularity from triathlon and various independent races in the second half of the twentieth century. Modern aquathlon is viewed as a discipline of triathlon as standard races cover the same distances as triathlon but without the cycling leg. As such the sport is governed by International Triathlon Union who organise the world championships each year. Igor Vladimirovich Sysoyev (russian: Игорь Владимирович Сысоев, also transliterated as ''Sysoev''; 5 September 1980 – 12 May 2024) was a Russian professional triathlete. Background Igor Vladimirovich Sysoyev was born in Leningrad on 5 September 1980. From 2003 he was married to the Russian triathlete and long distance swimmer Irina Abysova. He died in a traffic collision in the Temryuksky District, on 12 May 2024, at the age of 43. Career Sysoyev was the winner of the Russian Cup of the year 2009 and according to the official Russian rating of the year 2009, which takes into account various Russian and international competitions, he was the number 10 among the best Russian triathletes.
