Iran–Israel Proxy War
The Iran–Israel proxy war, also known as the Iran–Israel Cold War, is an ongoing proxy war between Iran and Israel. In the Israeli–Lebanese conflict, Iran has supported Lebanese Shia militias, most notably Hezbollah. In the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, Iran has backed Palestinian groups such as Hamas. Israel has supported Iranian rebels, such as the People's Mujahedin of Iran, conducted airstrikes against Iranian allies in Syria, assassinated Iranian nuclear scientists, and directly attacked Iranian forces in Syria. In 2024 the proxy war escalated to a series of direct confrontations between the two countries, and in June 2025, the Iran–Israel war began, involving the United States. The Gaza Strip, also known simply as Gaza, is a small territory located on the eastern coast of the Mediterranean Sea; it is the smaller of the two Palestinian territories, the other being the West Bank, that make up the State of Palestine. The National Defense Forces (NDF; ''Quwāt ad-Difāʿ al-Watanī'') was a Syrian paramilitary volunteer militia, that was formed on 1 November 2012 and organized by Ba'athist Syria during the Syrian civil war as a part-time volunteer reserve component of the Syrian Arab Armed Forces. Popular Mobilization Units
The Popular Mobilization Forces (PMF; ), also known as the Popular Mobilization Units (PMU), is an Iran and state-sponsored terrorism, Iranian-backed paramilitary umbrella group that operates within Iraq. Although formally and legally part of the Iraqi Armed Forces and reporting directly to the Prime Minister of Iraq, prime minister, PMF leaders act independently from state control and, in reality, answer to the Supreme Leader of Iran, supreme leader of Iran, Ali Khamenei. Sabireen Movement
The Sabireen Movement, officially the Movement of the Patient ones in Support for Palestine – Hisn (), was a Shiite Palestinian militant group that operated from 15 May 2014 to March 2019. The movement was formed by a number of Palestinian Islamic Jihad (PIJ) leaders who converted to Shiism and were dissatisfied with the PIJ's leadership and with Hamas's position in the Yemeni Civil War (2015–present), Yemeni Civil War, where it supported the Saudi-led intervention in the Yemeni civil war, Saudi-led intervention, and the Syrian Civil War, where it supported Syrian opposition, the opposition. The Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine – General Command () or PFLP-GC is a Palestinian nationalist militant organisation based in Syria. It is a member of the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO). It was founded in 1968 by Ahmed Jibril after splitting from the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP) based on ideological and internal disputes. The Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP; ) is a secular Palestinian Marxist–Leninist organization founded in 1967 by George Habash. It has consistently been the second-largest of the groups forming the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO), the largest being Fatah. The PFLP has generally taken a hard line on Palestinian national aspirations, opposing the more moderate stance of Fatah.
