Iowa Senate Elections, 2010
The 2010 Iowa State Senate elections took place as part of the biennial 2010 United States elections. Iowa voters elected state senators in half of the state senate's districts—the 25 odd-numbered state senate districts. State senators serve four-year terms in the Iowa State Senate, with half of the seats up for election each cycle. The primary election on June 8, 2010 determined which candidates appeared on the November 2, 2010 general election ballot. Primary election results can be obtained here. Following the previous 2008 Iowa Senate election, Democrats maintained control of the Iowa state Senate with 32 seats. To reclaim control of the chamber from Democrats, the Republicans needed to net 8 Senate seats. Democrats maintained control of the Iowa State Senate following the 2010 general election; however, their majority was significantly reduced from 32 to 26 seats. Iowa State Senate
The Iowa Senate is the upper house of the Iowa General Assembly, United States. There are 50 seats in the Iowa Senate, representing 50 single-member districts across the Iowa, state of Iowa with populations of approximately 60,927 per constituency, . Each Senate district is composed of two House districts. The Senate meets at the Iowa State Capitol in Des Moines, Iowa, Des Moines. Unlike the lower house, the Iowa House of Representatives, Senators serve four-year terms, with no Term limits in the United States, term limits. Terms are staggered so that half the Senate is up for reelection every two years. Rick Bertrand (born December 22, 1969) was the Iowa State Senator from the 7th District. A Republican, he has served in the Iowa Senate between 2010 and 2019. After graduating from Bishop Heelan High School, he attended Iowa Central Community College before obtaining a degree at the University of Northern Iowa in Political Science. Amanda Ragan
Amanda Ragan (born September 20, 1954) is an Iowan State Senator from the 27th District. A member of the Democratic Party, she has served in the Iowa Senate since 2002. Rich Olive
Richard Warren "Rich" Olive (December 2, 1949 – June 20, 2016) was an American realtor and politician from Iowa. A Democrat, he served the Fifth District in the Iowa Senate from 2007 until 2011. Olive served on several committees in the Iowa Senate: the Commerce committee; the Agriculture committee, where he was vice chair; the Economic Growth committee, where he was vice chair; and the Government Oversight committee, where he was chair.
