Ionuț Popa
Ionuț Popa (17 April 1953 – 25 June 2020) was a Romanian professional footballer and manager. Popa managed teams such as UTA Arad, Bihor Oradea, Politehnica Iași and ACS Poli Timișoara, among others. Managerial career Popa was the coach of Liga I team Politehnica Iași from 2004, when they were promoted to the top league, until January 2009, becoming one of the longest serving coaches in Liga I. He quit his job due to a lack of funds. He was soon replaced by Cristiano Bergodi. 2011–12 Liga II
The 2011–12 Liga II was the 72nd season of the Liga II, the second tier of the Romanian football league system. The league structure had two series of 16 teams each. The first two teams in each series were promoted and the last three in each series were relegated. The season began on August 20. Teams Three of the five relegated teams from the previous Liga I season, Timișoara, Gloria Bistrița and Unirea Urziceni, did not apply for a Liga II license. The latter club was dissolved, while the first two appealed the relegation decision at the Court of Arbitration for Sport and did not to apply for Liga II licenses. Previously they were denied Liga I licenses for the 2011–12 season and were relegated, despite finishing on non-relegating spots. Their cases were dismissed by the CAS on July 18. The 2001–02 Divizia B was the 62nd season of the second tier of the Romanian football league system. The format has been changed from two series of 18 teams to two series, each of them having 16 teams. At the end of the season, the winners of the series promoted to Divizia A and the last four places from both series relegated to Divizia C. The Liga 2, most often spelled as Liga II, is the second level of the Romanian football league system. The league changed its name from Divizia B just before the start of the 2006–07 Liga II, 2006–07. It is currently Sponsor (commercial), sponsored by Casa Pariurilor, a betting company with the official name Liga 2 Casa Pariurilor. Format Divisions Since its inception in 1934, Liga II had between 2 and 9 parallel divisions, with clubs divided based on geographic regions. Generally, Seria I included eastern teams while Seria II included western sides, although clubs near the center of the country are allowed to choose in which series they will compete. The first six teams from each series participate in a play-off for potential promotion to Liga I.
