Inverness Royal Academy
Inverness Royal Academy is a comprehensive secondary school in the city of Inverness in the Highland area of Scotland. A former grammar school with a history dating back to the 13th century, the Academy became a comprehensive in the mid-1970s. It has been at its present site in the Culduthel area of the city since 1977. Catchment area The school is a six-year comprehensive school serving an extensive area. The associated primary schools are Stratherrick, Aldourie, Cauldeen, Farr, Foyers, Hilton, Holm, Lochardil, Inshes and Bun-sgoil Ghaidhlig Inbhir Nis (Gaelic Primary School Inverness). Children living within the catchment area who attended St. Joseph's and Bishop Eden primaries also transfer there after Primary 7. Culduthel ( Gaelic: ''Cùil Daothail'') is an area in the south of the city of Inverness, in the Highland council area of Scotland. The area is largely residential, and is the location of Inverness Royal Academy Inverness Royal Academy is a comprehensive secondary school in the city of Inverness in the Highland area of Scotland. The Inverness Courier is a local, bi-weekly newspaper, published each Tuesday and Friday in Inverness, Highland, Scotland. It reports on issues in Inverness and the Highlands and Islands of Scotland. James Gordon (Upper Canada Politician)
James Gordon (August 26, 1786 – April 10, 1865) was a merchant and political figure in Upper Canada and Canada West. He was born in Inverness, Scotland in 1786 and studied at the Inverness Royal Academy. He came to Amherstburg in Upper Canada. He served in the local militia, becoming lieutenant in 1809 and lieutenant colonel in 1822. He represented Kent in the Legislative Assembly of Upper Canada from 1820 to 1828. In 1822, he was named justice of the peace in the Western District. He was appointed to the Legislative Council of Upper Canada in 1829 and to the Legislative Council of the Province of Canada in 1845. The Moderator of the General Assembly of the Church of Scotland is the minister or elder chosen to moderate (chair) the annual General Assembly of the Church of Scotland, which is held for a week in Edinburgh every year. After chairing the Assembly, the Moderator then spends the following year representing the Church of Scotland at civic events, and visiting congregations and projects in Scotland and beyond. John Annand Fraser
John Annand Fraser, MBE, TD was Moderator of the General Assembly of the Church of Scotland from 1958 to 1959. He was born into a clerical family on 21 June 1894 and educated at Robert Gordon's College, Inverness Royal Academy and the Universities of Aberdeen and Edinburgh. During The Great War he served with the Gordon Highlanders. The Institution of Chemical Engineers (IChemE) is a global professional engineering institution with over 33,000 members worldwide. It was founded in 1922 and awarded a Royal Charter in 1957. Gordon Beveridge
Sir Gordon Smith Grieve Beveridge (28 November 1933 – 28 August 1999) was a Scottish chemist. He served as President and Vice-Chancellor of Queen's University of Belfast, Northern Ireland, from 1986 to 1997. He was knighted in 1994 for his services to higher education and died in Belfast. Career Sir Gordon was born in St Andrews, Fife and brought up in Inverness. He attended Inverness Royal Academy, followed by the University of Glasgow, where he studied Engineering. Sir William N. Fraser, (18 February 1816 – 13 March 1898) was a solicitor and notable expert in ancient Scottish history, palaeography, and genealogy. Life Fraser's family came of the stock of farmers and craftsmen in The Mearns. He was born the eldest of two sons and a daughter of James Fraser (1786 – 1834), a mason, and his spouse Ann (died 1821), daughter of James Walker, tenant of the farm of Elfhill of Fetteresso, about 5 miles from Stonehaven. The couple were settled and were feuholders at Links of Arduthie. William Fraser was initially educated at a private school in Stonehaven kept by the Reverend Charles Michie, a M.A. graduate of Aberdeen's Marischal College in 1810, who spent his life teaching. Edward Strathearn Gordon, Baron Gordon of Drumearn, (10 April 1814 – 21 August 1879) was a Scottish judge and politician. Early life and education Gordon was born on 10 April 1814. He was educated at Inverness Royal Academy, Royal High School, Edinburgh, the University of Glasgow and the University of Edinburgh. Career He was called to the Scottish bar in 1835. He was appointed Sheriff of Perth for 1858 to 1866, Solicitor General for Scotland from 1866 to 1867, and Lord Advocate from 1867 to 1868 and again from 1874 to 1876. He was Dean of the Faculty of Advocates from 1868 to 1874. He became a Queen's Counsel in 1868, and was appointed a Privy Counsellor in 1874.
