Inverkeithing United F.C.
Inverkeithing United Football Club are a Scottish football club based in Inverkeithing, Fife, who won the Scottish Junior Cup in 1912–13. The club was reformed in 2017 as community football club. History The club began as a Juvenile side, Inverkeithing Renton, in 1906 and won the Fife Juvenile Cup in 1910–11. Renton changed their name to United when stepping up to the Junior grade in 1912. The club won the Scottish Junior Cup in their debut season at this level, defeating Dunipace Juniors 1–0 at Firhill Park, Glasgow in front of a crowd of 9,564. They were the first club from Fife to win the Junior Cup, and remained the only one to do so until St Andrews United triumphed in 1960. The club played on through World War I using scratch sides drawn from military personnel then enjoyed local success in Fife before going into abeyance in 1927 due to ground issues. Inverkeithing ( ; gd, Inbhir Chèitinn) is a port city, port town and parish, in Fife, Scotland, on the Firth of Forth. A town of ancient origin, Inverkeithing was given royal burgh status during the reign of Malcolm IV of Scotland, Malcolm IV in the 12th century. It was an important center of trade during the Middle Ages, and its industrial heritage built on quarrying and ship breaking goes back to the 19th century. Rosyth ( gd, Ros Fhìobh, "headland of Fife") is a town on the Firth of Forth, south of the centre of Dunfermline. According to the census of 2011, the town has a population of 13,440. The new town was founded as a Garden city-style suburb and naval dockyards in 1909, and was built as the coastal port of Dunfermline. Rosyth is almost contiguous with neighbouring Inverkeithing, separated only by the M90 motorway. Rosyth railway station is on the Fife Circle Line. The Fife Junior Football League was a Association football, football league competition under the jurisdiction of the Scottish Junior Football Association, which operated as the top league in Fife until a merger in 2002; it existed for a further four years as a second-tier league before the name was discontinued in 2006. History The league was formed in 1913 from a merger between smaller competitions across the county, initially the ''Howe of Fife League'' (played between 1892 and 1913) and the ''West Fife County League'' (1893 to 1913), later joined by teams from the ''East Neuk League'' (1908 to 1924).
