''Interrupting Chicken'' is a 2010 children's picture book written and illustrated by David Ezra Stein and published by Candlewick Press. ''Interrupting Chicken'' was awarded the 2011 Caldecott Honor and a New York Times Bestseller. David Ezra Stein
David Ezra Stein is an American author and illustrator of children's books. He is best known for his '' Interrupting Chicken'' series, which was adapted into an animated television show on Apple TV+ in 2022. The first book of the series has been named a Caldecott Honor book. Biography Stein was born in Brooklyn, New York. His father was a cartographer, and his mother was a painter and editor, both of which inspired him as an artist. He attended the Parsons School of Design, where he majored in editorial illustration. While studying, he took a year off, during which he lived in Cape Cod and explored puppetry. Stein's books have been translated in Chinese, Korean, Japanese, Spanish, Catalan, Dutch, French, and Finnish, and his artwork has appeared in ''The New York Times'' and ''The New Yorker'', among other major publications. Caldecott Medal
The Randolph Caldecott Medal, frequently shortened to just the Caldecott, annually recognizes the preceding year's "most distinguished American picture book for children". It is awarded to the illustrator by the Association for Library Service to Children (ALSC), a division of the American Library Association (ALA). The Caldecott and Newbery Medals are considered the most prestigious American children's literature, children's book awards. Besides the Caldecott Medal, the committee awards a variable number of citations to runners-up they deem worthy, called the Caldecott Honor or Caldecott Honor Books. The Caldecott Medal was first proposed by Frederic G. Melcher in 1937. The award was named after English illustrator Randolph Caldecott.
