International Songwriting Contest
The Unisong International Songwriting Contest is the oldest international songwriting competition for and judged by songwriters. Unisong International Song Contest was founded in 1996 by songwriter Alan Roy Scott (Music Bridges), publisher David Stark (SongLink International) and songwriter/promoter Brett Perkins (Brett Perkins Presents). The contestants are judged on the quality of their song, originality, and performance. Songwriting Competition
A songwriting competition is a competition, contest whereby musicians submit original music to a third party or forum, generally to win a prize or some other benefit. Songwriting competitions have existed long before the advent of the Internet, but today many are conducted through websites or musician forums. An example is the John Lennon Songwriting Contest in New York, which was founded by Yoko Ono in 1997 and has existed both online and offline. Other important songwriting competitions are the Unisong International Song Contest in Los Angeles or the International Songwriting Competition in Nashville, Tennessee, Nashville. Winners receive money prizes exposure and airplay of their songs, sometimes recording contracts. Songwriting competitions, such as the 2FM Song Contest for song-writers aged under 21, are often called "career-boosts". Andrew Gold
Andrew Maurice Gold (August 2, 1951 – June 3, 2011) was an American multi-instrumentalist, singer, songwriter, and record producer who influenced much of the Los Angeles-dominated pop/soft rock sound in the 1970s. Gold played on scores of records by other artists, most notably Linda Ronstadt, and had his own success with the U.S. top 40 hits " Lonely Boy" (1977) and "Thank You for Being a Friend" (1978), as well as the UK top five hit "Never Let Her Slip Away" (1978). In the 1980s, he had further international chart success as one half of Wax, a collaboration with 10cc's Graham Gouldman. Don Edward Fagenson (born September 13, 1952), known professionally as Don Was, is an American musician, record producer and record executive. John Braheny (December 9, 1938 – January 19, 2013) was an American author and singer-songwriter. He released a solo album in 1968, ''Some Kind of Change'', on the Pete label. He was born in 1938 in Iowa. He also wrote songs for others, including "December Dream" in 1967, which was recorded by The Stone Poneys who included lead vocalist Linda Ronstadt. Harriet Schock (born January 24, 1941) is an American singer, songwriter, teacher, author, and actress. She made three albums for a major label in the 1970s, scoring gold and platinum awards for her Grammy-nominated " Ain't No Way to Treat a Lady". She later moved into teaching and soundtrack work.
