''Interludes After Midnight'' is the fifth solo studio album by American hip hop producer Blockhead. It was released on Ninja Tune on April 30, 2012. Critical reception Aaron Matthews of ''Exclaim!'' described the album as "a bleary descent into the darker hours of night, evoking dollar cabs, cheap pizza and half-emptied 40 oz. bottles." D. M. Collins of '' L.A. Record'' called it "an album that follows through on the promise of hip hop and breakbeat that rarely gets fulfilled: full sample immersion that leaves its sources big and bold yet fully, delightfully rearranged, a true collage braided together lovingly with original combinations of boxy beats and tinkling treble tones." Blockhead (music Producer)
Tony Simon (born October 8, 1976), better known by his stage name Blockhead, is an American hip hop record producer and DJ from Manhattan, New York. Aside from his solo efforts released on the Ninja Tune label, he is most associated with producing tracks for Aesop Rock. He has been a member of the groups such as Party Fun Action Committee and The Mighty Jones. Biography Simon was born and raised in Downtown Manhattan. He is the son of the late Sidney Simon, a sculptor based in New York City, and Renee Adriance, a social worker. He has one brother and five half siblings. At a young age, he loved hip hop in both the lyrical and musical aspects. In his early teens, Simon and his friends formed a group called the Overground, where he started making music. As an aspiring rapper, he enrolled in Boston University and met Aesop Rock, another BU student. At this point, Simon quit rapping and focused on producing music. Hip hop production is the creation of hip hop music in a recording studio. Ninja Tune
Ninja Tune is an independent record label based in London, with a satellite office in Los Angeles. It was founded in 1990 by musicians Matt Black and Jonathan More, known collectively as Coldcut. The label was established as an outlet for Coldcut to explore a style distinct from that of the mainstream music industry. History 1990–1999 Following a Coldcut tour in Japan with Norman Cook (a.k.a. Fatboy Slim, then of Beats International) the label lifted its moniker and aesthetic from the Japanese TV shows of the 1950s and 1960s based on the Ninja. ''The Music Scene'' is the fourth solo studio album by American hip hop producer Blockhead. It was released on Ninja Tune on November 3, 2009. It received generally favorable reviews from critics. Critical reception At Metacritic, which assigns a weighted average score out of 100 to reviews from mainstream critics, the album received an average score of 75, based on 9 reviews, indicating "generally favorable reviews". Rick Anderson of AllMusic commented that "Everyone makes sample-based music these days, but very few people use found sounds and prefab musical snippets as creatively and thoughtfully as Blockhead does." Baby Dayliner (AKA Ethan Marunas) is a musical recording and performing artist from and based out of New York City. He was born and raised in New York City, and went to Fiorello H. LaGuardia High School of Music & Art and Performing Arts, also known as the high school from the 1980 film '' Fame''. He attended St. John's College in Annapolis, MD and Santa Fe, NM. After varying roles in different bands, Marunas decided to take the stage as a solo act. He became deft at synths, samplers, and recording, and began crafting songs that would be performed under the Baby Dayliner name. Marunas' first big musical influence was classical as a child violinist. Later came jazz and hip-hop records.
