Inter Sniečkus
FK Visaginas (also previously Interas-AE) is a Lithuanian football team from Visaginas. Before 2006, the club was fully amateur and many players of the team worked in an atomic plant. The club was promoted to Lithuanian A Lyga 2007 season and completely revamped its squad, mostly taking players on loan from FC Vilnius. But after a disastrous season the club failed to acquire A lyga license and was also denied participation in LFF I Lyga. Visaginas
Visaginas () is a city in northeastern Lithuania. It is the centre of Lithuania's youngest municipality, located on the north-eastern edge of the country. It was built as a town for workers engaged in the construction of the now decommissioned Ignalina Nuclear Power Plant. Visaginas is the only city in Lithuania where the majority of the population speaks Russian as their first language. Originally the aerial view of Visaginas was designed to resemble a butterfly. However, after work on the nuclear power plant was cancelled, so was further construction of the town. The A Lyga is the top division of professional football in Lithuania. It is organized by Lithuanian Football Federation (LFF) (). History The first football league was established in Lithuania in 1924, and in various forms existed until 1939. Due to the Polish–Lithuanian War, clubs from Vilnius did not take part in early period of the Lithuanian football competitions. Later during the period of Soviet occupation, a Lithuanian amateur top division existed, while professional players played in USSR football competitions. The Lithuanian professional top division was restored in 1990. The naming convention changed several times, but since 1999 the league is consistently referred to as A lyga. Format The league system and size have also stabilized since 1999. FC Vilnius
FC Vilnius was a Lithuanian football club, playing in the capital city of Vilnius. At first it was known under the name ''Šviesa''. In 2003, the club made its debut in the Lithuanian top division. In 2007, the club went back to the second division, and in 2008, this club ceased to exist. The club was founded in 1974 on the basis of the Lithuanian national youth team. Up to 1990 there were around 500 youths were training in the club's facilities. After Lithuanian's independence, the sports organisations underwent restructuring. In 2001 by the initiative of businessman Algimantas Breikštas the club was recreated as restored the club as „Šviesa“. The club played in A Lyga between 2003 and 2007. I Lyga
The LFF Pirma Lyga, TOPsport Pirma Lyga, or Pirma Lyga, is the second tier of professional Lithuanian football championship. Format Organized by the Lithuanian Football Federation (LFF), I Lyga is contested by 16 teams, with the top team gaining promotion to A Lyga and replaced by the lowest-placed team in top division. The second-placed team qualifies to a promotion play-off with A Lyga's second to last team. Bottom 2 clubs are relegated to the II Lyga, and 3rd last team plays a play-off with the 3rd placed team in II Lyga. The final list of participants often does not correlate to the final results of the previous season, as the participation is finalized through the Lithuanian Football Federation league licensing process.
