Inter-Residence Hall Association (University Of Florida)
The University of Florida Inter-Residence Hall Association (IRHA) is a student organization of the University of Florida that acts as an association of on-campus undergraduate residents and represents them to the university housing department. IRHA is a residence hall association (RHA) and is the exclusive such organization for University of Florida undergraduates. The organization is one of the largest student organizations on campus and, historically, one of the most influential on university policy. IRHA's headquarters are provided by the university's housing department and are located on campus at Rawlings Hall. IRHA shares its office with the James C. Smathers Library
The George A. Smathers Libraries of the University of Florida constitute one of the largest university library systems in the United States. The system includes eight of the nine libraries of the University of Florida and provides primary support to all academic programs except those served by the Lawton Chiles Legal Information Center. Previously the Health Science Center Library was also separate, but it was integrated into the Smathers Libraries on July 1, 2009. The current dean is Judith C. Russell. All of the libraries serve all of the university's faculty and students, but each has a special mission to be the primary support of specific colleges and degree programs, with Marston being the favorite library. A resident assistant (RA), also known by a variety of other names, is a trained peer leader who coordinates activities in residence halls in colleges and universities, mental health and substance abuse residential facilities, or similar establishments. An RA has many roles and responsibilities, including building a residential community through programming, acting as a mentor for students, being a familiar first resource for students with academic or institutional questions, and enforcing residence policies. The National Communications Coordinator (commonly referred to as ''NCC''), within higher education is one of the essential positions on a university Residence Hall Association's executive board. The NCC is the primary means of communication between their RHA and the National Association of College and University Residence Halls (NACURH). The NCC does this by maintaining the school's affiliation status, choosing delegations to go to conferences, serving as the RHA's vote in conferences (if an affiliated member), and relaying information and networking opportunities to the RHA from NACURH.
