Intelligent Resilient Framework
Intelligent Resilient Framework (IRF) is a proprietary software virtualization technology originally developed by Huawei 3Com. It can connect and configure multiple network devices through physical ports and then virtualize the devices. This enables the unified management and maintenance of multiple devices. This technology is similar to the Cisco Virtual PortChannel (vpC). History This technology was originally developed by 3Com and released in 2003 as XRN (eXpandable Resilient Networking). When HP Inc. purchased 3Com in April 2010, the technology was renamed to IRF. Overview An IRF virtual device appears as a node on the network, which can be connected to in order to manage all members of the virtual device. TRILL
TRILL (Transparent Interconnection of Lots of Links) is a networking protocol for optimizing bandwidth and resilience in Ethernet networks, implemented by devices called TRILL switches. TRILL combines techniques from bridging and routing, and is the application of link-state routing to the VLAN-aware customer-bridging problem. Routing bridges (RBridges) are compatible with, and can incrementally replace, previous IEEE 802.1 customer bridges. TRILL Switches are also compatible with IPv4 and IPv6, routers and end systems. Virtual Device
A virtual device in Unix is a file such as :/dev/null or :/dev/urandom, that is treated as a device, as far as user level software is concerned, but is generated by the kernel (operating system), kernel without reference to hardware. For instance when /dev/null is written to, the kernel tells the program it wrote everything to it (without actually writing it anywhere), and when read from, the reading program is told that it has reached the end of the file. EtherChannel
EtherChannel is a port link aggregation technology or port-channel architecture used primarily on Cisco switches. It allows grouping of several physical Ethernet links to create one logical Ethernet link for the purpose of providing fault-tolerance and high-speed links between switches, routers and servers. An EtherChannel can be created from between two and eight active Fast, Gigabit or 10-Gigabit Ethernet ports, with an additional one to eight inactive (failover) ports which become active as the other active ports fail.
