Gulbene
Gulbene (; ) is a town in the Vidzeme region of Latvia. It is an administrative center of Gulbene Municipality. History Historical documents first mention the 1224 land division act between the Livonian Order, Order of the Sword Brothers and the Archbishopric of Riga, Archbishop of Riga. In the 14th century, the Archbishop built a stone castle around which a populated place was formed. The Low church, Evangelical Lutheran church (Brivības iela 13) was built on the ancient Latgalians, Latgalian castle mound in place of the later Middle Age brick castle from 1838.–1843. The church is built in the Classical architecture, classical style. Vecgulbene (Old Gulbene) estate complex was built in the middle and second half of the 19th century not far off the church. Mihails Arhipovs
Mihails Arhipovs (born 10 November 1984 in Sigulda) is a former Latvian bobsledder who has competed since 2003. Competing in two Winter Olympics, he earned his best finish of tenth in the four-man event at Vancouver in 2010. Currently he is a coach of the Latvian skeleton team. In the 2005–06 season, Arhipovs had a 15th-place from Lake Placid, New York, as his best result. He took over from Gatis Gūts as the second Latvian four-man bobsleigh representative in bobsleigh World Cup events. He had a fifth and eighth placing from the 2005 Junior World Championships. Cesana Pariol
Cesana Pariol was the venue for bobsleigh, luge and skeleton during the 2006 Winter Olympics in Turin, Italy. The track, built for the games, is located in Cesana Torinese. The venue holds approximately 7,130 spectators, of whom 3,624 are seated. Construction details The track is constructed with about of ammonia refrigeration pipes to help form ice on the track for proper sliding. Numerous sensors located along the track ensure that the ice's thickness is kept between to keep the track properly smooth during competitions. History During construction of the track prior to the 2006 games, there was concern that the track would be completed in time for homologation. An archaeological find (a small part of a Roman ruins) during construction slowed progress until the remains were excavated (near the current Turn 11). The track was completed on end of 2004. Daumants Dreiškens (born 28 March 1984) is a Latvian bobsledder, brakeman, who has competed since 2003. He won a gold medal in the four-man event at the FIBT World Championships 2016 in Igls, Austria, with pilot Oskars Melbārdis, Arvis Vilkaste and Jānis Strenga. It was the first ever World Championships gold medal in bobsled for Latvia. He also won a silver medal in the two-man event at FIBT World Championships 2015 in Winterberg, Germany, and two bronze medals in the four-man events at the FIBT World Championships 2009 in Lake Placid, New York, with pilot Jānis Miņins, Oskars Melbārdis and Intars Dambis, and at the FIBT World Championships 2015. Jānis Miņins
Jānis Miņins (born 15 August 1980 in Kuldīga) is a Latvian bobsledder who has competed since 1999. He won a bronze medal in the four-man event at the FIBT World Championships 2009 in Lake Placid, New York, earning the country its first championship medal ever. In the 2004–05 season his best placing was a sixth place in the 4-man bob in Cortina d'Ampezzo and Winterberg, both times with Juris Latiss, Ainārs Podnieks and Jānis Ozols. For the 2005–06 season he changed his team mates, retaining Ozols but bringing in Mārcis Rullis and Intars Dīcmanis to the four-man bob. However, his team fell to a best place of 10th, and he has had his best placing in the World Cup this season at the World Cup in Igls, with a fourth place together with Daumants Dreiškens. Oskars Melbārdis
Oskars Melbārdis (born 16 February 1988) is a former Latvian bobsledder who has competed since 2006. He is the most successful bobsledder in the history of his country, having won one gold and two bronze Olympic medals. He also earned the first-ever gold medal for Latvia at World Championships in Igls, preceded by one silver and two bronze medals in 2009–2015.
