Innocent Records
Innocent Records was a pop record label created to cater to for EMI's Virgin Records more pop oriented acts. Following the success of the Spice Girls, Virgin Records decided to delve into the pop market. In doing so they poached Hugh Goldsmith from RCA Records (famous for steering Take That's initial flagging sales, to a multi-platinum act). They let him launch his own Virgin Records offshoot. His first signing was Billie Piper, followed by Martine McCutcheon, along with several dance acts. The label continued to thrive well into the mid-2000s with Atomic Kitten and Blue achieving Platinum sales. In early 2005, Goldsmith returned to Sony BMG (parent company of RCA Records) to set up Brightside Records. Hugh Goldsmith
Hugh Goldsmith is a music industry executive from London, England. After leaving his role as managing director of RCA Records in the UK, he founded Innocent Records. Career Prior to joining RCA Records as marketing director in 1992, Goldsmith had been a full-time musician and songwriter, and had also worked in the advertising and publishing industries. According to a ''Financial Times'' article by Sathnam Sanghera, Goldsmith made “a name for himself by helping to break Take That”. Goldsmith was promoted to the position of Managing Director of RCA Records UK in 1995. Significant artists who Goldsmith worked with during his time at RCA included Annie Lennox, Take That, M People, David Bowie, Kylie Minogue, Robson and Jerome, Five and Natalie Imbruglia. VS (band)
VS were a British R&B and pop group that had three hit singles in the United Kingdom. The group were the brainchild of Blue member Simon Webbe (who was also their manager), Melody from DJ Pied Piper and the Masters of Ceremonies, and established singer-songwriter Ali Tennant, who came together to form the production company 'Love for Music'. Javine Dionne Hylton (born 27 December 1981), often known simply as Javine, is a retired English singer and songwriter. She gained recognition on ITV's '' Popstars: The Rivals'' and represented the UK at the 2005 Eurovision Song Contest in Kyiv with " Touch My Fire". Duncan Matthew James Inglis (born 7 April 1978) is an English singer, actor and television presenter. He became widely known in 2001 as a member of the boy band Blue and later for playing Ryan Knight in the British soap opera ''Hollyoaks''. Speedway (band)
Speedway were a Scottish pop rock group, who were formed in 2001, by Glaswegians Jill Jackson (lead vocals) and Jim Duguid (drums). The band acquired three more members in that year, with bass guitarist Tom Swann from Droitwich plus guitarist Dan Sells, now lead singer of The Feeling (the latter of whom was later replaced by Chris Leonard), and signed with Innocent Records in 2002. Also recruited as a guitarist was Carlos Garcia of The Crave. The band supported then labelmates Blue on their UK tour in early 2003, played a number of university gigs, and played to over 25,000 people in September 2003 at the KC Stadium in Hull as part of a charity event made by the local radio station, Viking FM.
