Inner Circle Music
Inner Circle Music is an American jazz record label founded by Greg Osby in 2007. After 15 albums with Blue Note Records, saxophonist Greg Osby left to start his own label. The label specializes in releasing self-produced works from artists from many different backgrounds and parts of the world. In 2008, its first album, 9 Levels, was released by Osby himself. Inner Circle Music's roster includes Melissa Aldana, João Barradas, Ran Blake, Juan Garcia-Herreros, Petros Klampanis, Logan Richardson, Kavita Shah, Yuhan Su, Gabriel Vicéns, and James Weidman. Since its founding, Inner Circle Music has released over 100 recordings. In 2016, All About Jazz ''All About Jazz'' is a website established by Michael Ricci in 1995. Greg Osby
Greg Osby (born August 3, 1960) is an American saxophonist and composer. Biography Born in St. Louis, Missouri, Osby studied at Howard University, then at the Berklee College of Music. He moved to New York City in 1982, where he played with Jaki Byard, Jim Hall, Muhal Richard Abrams, Andrew Hill, Jack DeJohnette, Dizzy Gillespie, and Herbie Hancock. In 1985, he joined DeJohnette's group Special Edition. With Geri Allen, Steve Coleman, Gary Thomas, and Cassandra Wilson, he was a founding member of the M-Base Collective. Osby began recording albums under his own name for JMT Records in the mid-1980s, then signed with Blue Note in 1989. In 2007, he formed his own label, Inner Circle Music. He gave exposure to young pianist Jason Moran, who appeared on most of Osby's 1990s albums, including ''Further Ado'', ''Zero'', '' Banned in New York'' and ''Symbols of Light'', a double quartet featuring the addition of a string quartet to the band. Kavita Shah
Kavita Shah is a vocalist and composer from New York, NY. She has been hailed by NPR for possessing an “amazing dexterity with musical languages”. Early years Shah's family is of Gujarati origin, and her parents are originally from Mumbai, India. Raised in Manhattan, Shah began her musical training in classical piano at age 5. She spent her formative years performing regularly at Carnegie Hall and Lincoln Center as a member of the prestigious Young People's Chorus of New York City, with whom she trained in styles ranging from opera to gospel to folk music in more than 20 languages. She traces her commitment to jazz to the childhood influence of uptown saxophonist Patience Higgins, a former neighbor whose band she would later join at Harlem venues including like Minton's and the Lenox Lounge. A volunteer staff publishes news, album reviews, articles, videos, and listings of concerts and other events having to do with jazz. Ricci maintains a related site, ''Jazz Near You'', about local concerts and events. James Weidman
James Edward Weidman Jr. , (born July 23, 1953, in Youngstown, Ohio) is an American jazz pianist. Weidman's father was a saxophonist who led his own band. He began playing piano when he was eight years old and eventually became electric organist in his father's group. He attended Youngstown State University, taking his bachelor's degree in 1976, and moved to New York City in 1978. He worked with Pepper Adams, Cecil Payne, Sonny Stitt, and Bobby Watson, then became Abbey Lincoln's pianist in 1982, an association that would continue into the early 1990s. He also worked with Steve Coleman and Jay Hoggard later in the 1980s. In the 1990s he worked with Cassandra Wilson, Talib Kibwe, Kevin Mahogany, Belden Bullock, and Marvin "Smitty" Smith. Gabriel Vicéns (born March 16, 1988) is a Puerto Rican guitarist, composer, producer, bandleader, educator, and visual artist currently based in New York City. Early life and education Born and raised in Guaynabo, Puerto Rico, Vicéns began his musical training at the age of 14, and shortly after, he began playing jazz in local clubs. He attended the Conservatorio de Música de Puerto Rico, where he earned a Bachelor of Music in Jazz and Caribbean Music studies, graduating summa cum laude as the first guitarist in the program in 2010. Later on, in 2016, he moved to New York City and attended Queens College, receiving a Master of Music in 2017. Logan Richardson (born July 29, 1980, Kansas City, Missouri) is an alto saxophonist, composer, bandleader, and producer. Richardson debuted as a bandleader with his 2007 album ''Cerebral Flow''. He is also a member of the band NEXT Collective. Jazz
Jazz is a music genre that originated in the African-American communities of New Orleans, Louisiana, in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Its roots are in blues, ragtime, European harmony, African rhythmic rituals, spirituals, hymns, marches, vaudeville song, and dance music. Petros Klampanis (born July 15, 1981), is a Greek bassist, composer, arranger, producer, and educator. Named a “Bass Ace” by Bass Player Magazine, composer and bassist Petros Klampanis grew up in Greece. In addition to his appearances in the US, he has performed at the JazzAhead Festival in Bremen, XJazz Festival in Berlin, and others.
