Inje County () is a county in Gangwon Province, South Korea. It has the lowest population density of any South Korean county. The county seat is Inje-eup, which located near the center of the county. History Inje is located in the north of Gangwon Province. Inje County has been called multiple names throughout its history. It was first known as Jeojokhyeon in the Goguryeo Kingdom, then Heejaehyeon in the Silla Kingdom, and Inje in the Goryeo Dynasty. The area was then known as Youngsohyeon and once again later on became Inje in the Joseon Dynasty. It was finally raised to the status of Inje county in August of 1896. At the end of the Japanese occupation of Korea in 1945, Korea was split into 13 distinctive administrative zones, and Inje County was located in Kangwon Province, and for a short time was under the administration of North Korea. Kangwon Province, North Korea
Kangwon Province (Kangwŏndo; ) is a province of North Korea, with its capital at Wŏnsan. Before the division of Korea in 1945, Kangwŏn Province and its South Korean neighbour Gangwon Province (also spelled ''Kangwon Province'' sometimes) formed a single province that excluded Wŏnsan. History Kangwŏn was one of the Eight Provinces of Korea during the Joseon Dynasty. The province was formed 1395, and derived its name from the names of the principal cities of Gangneung (or Kangnŭng; ) and the provincial capital Wonju (or Wŏnju; ). In 1895, Kangwŏn was replaced by the Districts of Chuncheon (''Chuncheon-bu''; ) in the west and Gangneung (''Gangneung-bu''; ) in the east. Wonju became part of Chungju District. 3rd Infantry Division (South Korea)
The 3rd Infantry Division (, Hanja: 第三步兵師團) is a military formation of the Republic of Korea Army. History First formed as the 3rd brigade on December 1, 1947. On December 24, 1949, the division conducted the Mungyeong massacre. The unit was upgraded to a division on May 12, 1949. On June 25, 1950, the North Korean army began to invade South Korea during the outbreak of war. The division was under the direct control of the Republic of Korea Army after the first fall of Seoul. It became part of the defensive line to slow the North Korean advance from Seoul to Daejeon. It also fought in the Battle of Pusan Perimeter. The Chinese spring offensive (), also known as the Chinese Fifth Phase Offensive (), was a military operation conducted by the Chinese People's Volunteer Army (PVA) during the Korean War. The People's Volunteer Army (PVA), officially the Chinese People's Volunteers (CPV), was the armed expeditionary forces China in the Korean War, deployed by the History of the People's Republic of China (1949–1976), People's Republic of China during the Korean War.
