Ingerval M. Olsen
Ingerval M. Olsen (January 4, 1861 – June 26, 1943) was an American attorney and jurist who served on the Minnesota Supreme Court. Ingerval M. Olsen was born in Lillehammer, Norway. Olsen emigrated with his parents to the United States in 1865 and settled in Nicollet County, Minnesota on a farm near St. Peter, Minnesota. Olsen received his bachelor's degree from the University of Minnesota in 1887 and was admitted to the Minnesota bar during 1893. Olsen practiced law in Sleepy Eye, Minnesota and became a Minnesota district court judge in 1906. He was re-eleeted in 1912 and was not a candidate in 1918. In 1920, was appointed to the district bench by Governor J. A. A. Burnquist. He was appointed associate justice of the Minnesota Supreme Court by Governor Theodore Christianson in 1930. The Minnesota Supreme Court is the highest court in the U.S. state of Minnesota. The court hears cases in the Supreme Court chamber in the Minnesota State Capitol or in the nearby Minnesota Judicial Center. History The court was first assembled as a three-judge panel in 1849 when Minnesota was still a territory. The first members were lawyers from outside the region, appointed by President Zachary Taylor. The court system was rearranged when Minnesota became a state in 1858. Nicollet County ( ) is a county in the U.S. state of Minnesota. As of the 2020 census, the population was 34,454. Its county seat is St. Peter. Nicollet County is part of the Mankato – North Mankato Metropolitan Statistical Area. History In 1849 the Minnesota Territory legislature defined the boundaries of nine future counties. One of those, Dakota, contained the area north of the Minnesota River where it altered its flow from southeast to northeast. In 1853 the first settler had homesteaded an area on the northeast run of the river, and the following year the settlement of Saint Peter was platted there. Theodore Christianson (September 12, 1883December 9, 1948) was an American politician who served as the 21st Governor of Minnesota from January 6, 1925, until January 6, 1931. Early life and education Christianson was born in Lac qui Parle Township, Minnesota. He was of Norwegian descent. He attended Dawson High School.
